It would be nice if you could have privacy settings on individual placemarks so that, for instance, my home address is hidden, but places i visit aren't
I think some attention could be paid to the way locations are shared outside of Brightkite. I really like the privacy levels you allow us to set for Brightkite users, but my entire home address gets sent to Twitter since I have that sharing feature turned on. I don't really want that to happen.
I'd rather stick with only allowing my trusted Brightkite friends to see my home address, and perhaps something like a location alias being sent to Twitter and other external services. So when I SMS that I'm @home, my Brightkite friends can see my full address, but maybe the Twitter message is simply "David's @home."
Can we edit placemarks? I am experimenting with how accurate I want my placemarks to be, but once I make one I can't change it without deleting and starting again.
How do we add a business listing not currently in your database? I'm sure you're pulling from an external database or something but we need to be able to add listings so we can check in at new businesses.
I'd like the option to have check-ins for certain Placemarks not be published to Twitter. People on Twitter don't need to see when I arrive at work then back home, but perhaps when I'm out doing other things, folks on Twitter might be interested to know this.
It would be neat if after you rename a location to a placemark at the top of your page it shows the placemark name instead of the address at the top. Perhaps containing the address next to it in smaller text.
It would just be nice when my address takes up two lines and I name it "Home" that it would take up less space. Thanks!
Placemarks are sorted alphabetically. Places visited are sorted by the number of times visited. Both are good and valid methods of organizations, but can we have just one?
This is a problem on the web also, but it is particularly acute on the iPhone...
When I accept a new friendship request, I think the acceptance date should define the date limit from which visited places and placemarks should be viewable to these new friends.
Ex: If I accept Dave on April 26th, 2008, he should only be able to see places and placemarks I was at from April 26th and forward. Nothing before that date.
On a privacy level, that is more logical to me. Perhaps you could add something like this in the profile section:
[ ] Show past (before friendship date) places and placemarks to friends
I noticed that when I check in to my location, in my timeline I see duplicate check-ins mere seconds apart (I think). For the last week or so, my check-ins at home are doubled. What I think is happening is a UX bug: when I load my Placemarks page and "check in" for one, it logs a check-in. But then it automatically takes me to the location I clicked, with no visual confirmation that my check-in was already recorded. So I check-in again, which behaves the way I expect except it seems to log it twice (because of the no-message previous check-in).
I realize that now that I understand how it works, I could correct my behavior and only check in once. But I shouldn't have to. What you should do it make the Placemark page check-in link leave me on that page, and popup some other kind of confirmation message saying my check-in is complete. Change the button text or something. Taking me to my location page does nothing—I know the location, because I saved it to my placemarks. I don't need to see the page for it. Either leave me on Placemarks, or return me to my homepage with that checkin noted in my timeline.
I would like to be able to create placemarks via the placemarks screen in my profile. Not just for places I have been, but places I may go. On my new account, I would like to setup my home, work locations, club, marina, etc. ahead of time so I can reference them when I am out.
On my iPhone, from the location page (eg. I am at home, little map visible, options: checkin, post a not or a photo, place stream, visitors), I would like access to my placemarks and visited places, so I can change locations from that screen. Also, I would like to be able to create a placemark from my phone. Thanks. Just somethings I've noticed this weekend.
Maybe I am doing this completely wrong but I have a placemark set up for @home. I type @home into my phone and send it to 80289 to check-in but I get "Sorry, but we couldn't find that place."..etc...
This happens with all of my placemarks that I try to checkin with SMS. Did I set something up wrong?
We need better proximity business searches. For example, with a starbucks on every street corner in my city, if I do a ?starbucks from my phone, it doesn't do a very good job of finding the closest one. Even from the web site, it only returns one page of matches; rarely is the sbux location I'm looking for in that first page. So you need to return pages of listings to find it.
When finding businesses with SMS, perhaps if there are more than 10 listings, you should first respond with another question asking for a nearby landmark, street address, street intersection or zip code to really hone down the search results before presenting pages and pages of results via SMS.
This might be available but maybe not, but I would love an area in the placemarks page that lists popular or common placemarks for my general vicinity that I could add to my personal placemarks. Then I wouldn't have to search to add them manually. I'm thinking airports, landmarks, etc.
