Placemarks are sorted alphabetically. Places visited are sorted by the number of times visited. Both are good and valid methods of organizations, but can we have just one?
This is a problem on the web also, but it is particularly acute on the iPhone...
Yesterday I tried to check in 4 times -- 3 times from places that I have placemarks for & a 4th place where I gave the correct address. My check ins were not recorded because the system sent me e-mail responses asking me to confirm that I want to check in from those locations. I didn't get the e-mails until hours later, so I was unable to check in.
Why does the system request me to confirm that I want to check in at places where I set placemarks for? Isn't it obvious that the answer is "yes" since I used the placemark name? And why did it ask for confirmation when I entered the correct address? Finally, on Thursday I entered an address in Oakland, CA and I received a request to confirm that I wanted to check in from an address in Salt Lake City. Seems like it's a bit wonky.
I noticed that when I check in to my location, in my timeline I see duplicate check-ins mere seconds apart (I think). For the last week or so, my check-ins at home are doubled. What I think is happening is a UX bug: when I load my Placemarks page and "check in" for one, it logs a check-in. But then it automatically takes me to the location I clicked, with no visual confirmation that my check-in was already recorded. So I check-in again, which behaves the way I expect except it seems to log it twice (because of the no-message previous check-in).
I realize that now that I understand how it works, I could correct my behavior and only check in once. But I shouldn't have to. What you should do it make the Placemark page check-in link leave me on that page, and popup some other kind of confirmation message saying my check-in is complete. Change the button text or something. Taking me to my location page does nothing—I know the location, because I saved it to my placemarks. I don't need to see the page for it. Either leave me on Placemarks, or return me to my homepage with that checkin noted in my timeline.
