On the Account Settings page, on the Sharing tab, BrightKite should prevent me or warn me about entering my Twitter settings if I have my BrightKite set to Private.
Because otherwise I expect it to post what I have checked to my Twitter, and when it does not, I then have to go and search for why it's not working. I did find the answer here, in the Get Satisfaction website, but the way it currently functions seems counter-intuitive.
I hope this comes across as a critique and not as criticism, and I hope it helps to make your product better! (Yay Beta products!)
I'm in public mode, the location I'm checking in at has a its privacy set to "According to my current privacy mode" yet my check ins aren't updating twitter even though on the Sharing tab I've got the checkbox checked for "When I check in at a place, post my checkin to Twitter."
Is it something in my Private mode filters, even though I'm in public mode? I wouldn't think so because there's a note that says "NOTE: These privacy filters only apply to things you do in private mode." but I'm at a loss for why this isn't working.
For what it's worth my Private mode filters are as follows:
Trusted Friends Friends Everyone else
Checkins Exact City Hidden
Posts Exact City Hidden
public placemarks are a huge need - i understand they can't be assigned by just anyone, but maybe you can assign "city ambassadors" or something, local people that have an "in" and know which areas around town need to be labeled by their appropriate nicknames. listing a certain gps, address, zip code may not mean anything when everyone refers to that part of town by a certain pseudonym.
Hi, is there any way to make a post public if the lock happens to be closed on that post (next to the trash can)?
I probably uploaded & posted the photos while I was in private mode, but I really didn't mean to be in that mode so when I switched back to public, I expected the status for my posts to change, but they seem to be "locked" in that state.
The trash can/delete next to the lock is clickable, but the lock is not. Do I have to delete and upload the photos again in public mode for them to be public? That would suck...
This doesn't seem to work.. only seems to take one command at a time. It would be nice if you could send an SMS when your profile is set to private that looked like this:
"public @location !I'm at <location>, come meet me!"
Which would set your location, set it public, and send a message all at once.
Currently it appears as though you have to send three text messages to do this, like:
"public"
now set to public
"@location"
now set at location
"!message"
Message published.
Any chances of Brightkite being able to parse three commands from one SMS?</location>
Couple suggestions after familiarizing myself with BrightKite -
After posting a picture via email, I got an automated reply from bkite with "(no subject)". It's be nice if the reply had "RE: title" so I know what it's referring to after the fact, and so it doesn't jack up my gmail conversations.
The ability to check in/set my privacy level/post message in one message (or the option to do all this via email + picture) would be nice, so I can add a private note to my feed without having to switch to private, check in, post, then switch back to public. (For whatever reason)
I'd also like the ability to change the privacy level of a post after its been posted.
