"I'm feeling lucky" feature for business checkins
It would be fun to have an "I'm feeling lucky" feature (ala Google), where you can checkin via SMS with "@ businessname 1" or "@@ businessname" (or something else) and that would automatically check you in at the first result for that business name.
(I can't take credit for this idea but I'm submitting it anyway :)

Inappropriate? We really want to prevent wrong checkins, mainly because you cannot delete them via SMS (there are ways to support that, but the user flow isn't very good).
When Google gets a "feeling lucky" search wrong, it's no big deal...you hit the back button and try the non-lucky version. For a checkin, you'd have to go delete it (so we'd need a deletelast command).
Let's see how this pans out. We appreciate the input, so please keep it coming.

Inappropriate?I like this idea, because sometimes you know the first result you'll get back is going to be the right one. The more we use the service, the more we'll want to be able to shortcut to the first search result, especially since texting in the business name is much easier than the address.
Consider this example:
Yesterday I went to a restaurant/bar in Seattle called Cyclops. I know it's the only one with a name like that. I texted ?Cyclops to Brightkite. The first result was, of course, the right one. The second result was "Ace Hotel" and the third was "Kicks Hobby Japan" -- neither of those having any remote possibility of being a match. I would much rather bank on the first result being the right one than go through a needless extra step to see meaningless non-matches.
I assume there will be a confirmation message, so if we see that it chose the wrong one, we can always just send another text with the correct info. I don't see a big need to delete an accidental entry.
I’m excited

Inappropriate?Sarah,
We're flattered by the confidence you have in our business search ;) We might give it a try and see what happens...nothing speaks like real-world data.
That being said, there are some reasons why we try to avoid erroneous checkins. They might not be apparent yet, but in the coming weeks, as we roll out additional features, I think our reasoning will make sense.
Stay tuned! :)
