add a searchable "free hotspot" flag to places!
add the option of a "free hotspot" flag to places, so that they can be looked up and found by others in that area. why not leverage the knowledge a user has about the place he/she checks in?? there is not a single useful and/or complete free hotspot directory available (here in europe, for example)! this is a huge chance for brightkite to increase the usefulness of it's service! i want to be able to press a "places" button, and see the known places nearby, sortable after different criteria. e.g, frequency of check-ins, user-ratings, or as i said, FREE WIFI (as a start)! do it! begin with the free hotspot flag. thanks.

Inappropriate?I think the idea is pretty good. There is one thing that needs attention: how to keep the hotspot database up-to-date? It would be very annoying to walk to hotspot just to see that it isn’t there anymore. If users can add spots, there should be some sort of "report missing hotspot" feature.
