Add iconstyle block to KML generator to embed user picture into KML file
This should be a quick and dirty one. Knowing you guys, you've already done this, and I've somehow missed it... again... :)
How about adding a method to the KML generator that shoves a <Style /> block into the top of KML files, so you can put a <styleURL /> block inside each <Placemark /> block. Maybe add just a preference flag in Settings so people can turn that off if they want?
As much as I hate looking at my face, I think this would be super nifty in a NetworkLink'd friendfeed (or city/universe/etc feed). Example here.
I also added a 2 meter altitude with >extrude /< set to 1 --- so the icon hovers a few feet above the ground if you tilt the Google Map view (this could look pretty spiffy if you had a bunch of people checking in at the same place, say a baseball game or something...
Oh... and output any KML with more than 4-5 entries through a ZIP compressor to make it into a KMZ. It'll cut down on your bandwidth without too much of a CPU hit. ;-)
