annoying check-ins from strangers

hi guys -

i'm excited about brightkite and look forward to using it to find my friends in the real world. however, my experience so far has consisted only of about 10 annoying check-in messages from some stranger named Mona. I see in your FAQ:

("Why am I receiving messages from people I don't know? Check your "Nearby Notifications" settings in your Account Settings.")
...that I can change this setting but I urge you to change the default to "friends only". Otherwise everyone who dips their toe in like me will get annoyed before they get value, and most will unsubscribe.

Also it would be nice if the incoming SMS messages said they were from brightkite, rather than from "80289" which just looks like SMS spam. I don't think that's who you want to be.

I have this problem, too! Tell me when someone solves it.
The more people who report this problem, the more it gets noticed.

Peter, we really appreciate the suggestions. I do have a quick question. I'm not sure how it works with your phone, but if you add 80289 to your phone contacts and name it Brightkite, does it not show up on your phone as Brightkite when you get a message?
