Better interface for checking in locations?
There's gotta be a better way to check in on your location on your mobile phone. I'm just using brightkite since yesterday. Today I went out on a local bike path and took a picture that I wanted to post. I could not search for this because it wasn't an address. I searched for the name of the trail, but that didn't work.
My thought is that there should either be some integration between brightkite and an internal gps receiver if available, or at least some way to access latlong coordinates through a more dynamic mapping tool, either via mobile browser or via the mobile version of Google maps. Optimally, I'd like to just bring up a map, zoom into my exact location, hit my screen to put a pin down, then have options to check in, placemark, post photo, etc. The current interface seems awfully clunky unless you are only using it to locate yourself at specific street addresses.

Inappropriate?Dvdmon, thanks for the feedback. GPS checkins are in the works. More on that here:

You can check in now using lat-long coordinates:

We are also working on a feature that will allow you to checkin by placing your position on a map, that should help with a lot of the locations that are hard to find.
Down the road checkins are going to be much easier.
I’m confident

Inappropriate?Great, thanks!

Inappropriate?Even simpler than this - I would love to be able to add 'my favorite places' so that I could simply scroll through that list and pick out where I am. In "My Placemarks" there's no way to add a new place quickly.
We are, after all, creatures of habit and don't go to THAT many places.
Or can I do this already? Am I missing something? If not, there should be a button that says "add place" in your place stream. I hate that it searches the web first.
I’m ugh.

Mark, every Placestream has an "Add to Placemarks" button in the top right corner of the page. The iPhone and Mobile versions also have a button for this and you can placemark a location via SMS by texting "MARK" once you are checked in at that location. I hope that helps. :) -
Thanks Lesley. I'm looking into it. Thanks for the quick reply. -
Inappropriate?the gps won't help if you live in a contry like Indonesia... Even my workplace Surabaya (a city) is not listed in brightkite...
I’m frustrated

It looks like we do have Surabaya, it's just labeled incorrectly as Baratajaya. We will fix that as soon as we get the chance. :)
