Brightkite can't find my location! What's up with that?
It can't find my location when I type it in. What's up with that? I type it in just like I would write it on an envelope. It comes up on Google maps, but not here.

Inappropriate? Please send me the address you are trying to martin AT brightkite DOT KOM.

Inappropriate?3/3 fail. You're using google maps but not the google address info...maybe tell us what database you ARE using so we can try searching there ;)
And zip + 4 does not help. drat.
I’m frustrated
-
Which address were you trying to look up? -
600 North US Highway 45 Libertyville, Illinois 60048-1286 ...looks like you have "Motorola Pkwy, Libertyville, IL 60048, USA" which nobody uses :) -
Unsurprising. If you search Businesses for Big Lots in Yorktown, VA, you get the business, but clicking it confuses the site (it can't find the address). On the iPhone it's worse, just small black text on a white background saying "not found". In reality, it just can't turn Mem (google's version) into Memorial (Brightkite's version). It also can't handle just "Highway 17", or Hwy 17, which should theoretically work fine. Just like how nuthatch is looking for a highway number, but Brightkite only knows the name. -
Inappropriate?100% failure rate with BrightKite finding my location. Boo Hiss! About to give up on this tool.
I’m flummoxed
-
If you give us an example of a search that you tried, we could help. -
Inappropriate?I will give you my home address by IM Martin, what is your IM address? By the way, it can find my "town" fine, Redwood Valley, CA 95470, but not my address, however, Google, along with every other GPS and map program out there have no problems with my address. I don't live in an incorporated area, it's in the country out here in rural Mendocino County in Northwestern California.

Can you send it via email to martin AT brightkite DOT KOM? -
Inappropriate?Sure, it's on it's way, thanks Martin!

Inappropriate?Having the same problem for:
River Pointe Way, Lawrence, MA 01843
It works on google maps but no BrightKite
I’m undecided
-
Inappropriate?Same problem for Starbucks at:
4901 Walzem Rd
San Antonio, TX 78218
This is right across Rackspace's new HQs, so expect this place to be visited a lot.
I’m disspointed
-
Inappropriate?Getting the same problem here. Address is 222 Black Bear Dr., Flinton, PA 16640.

Inappropriate?I've just posted this elsewhere but seems relevant - let us fine tune the position of placemarks on the map and that will solve a lot of problems. I wanted to set my position in my University Department but searching for it either changes the post code (search for LE11 3TU brings back LE11 2) or picks a point on the wrong side of the campus. If I could just drag that pointer across that would be problem solved
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate? In on the Big Island of Hawaii and it seems like the entire cities are missing... I can see places like Kohala Coast on the map but the closest I can get is 10-20 miles away...
I’m super frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Has this issue been resolved? I too can find my home on the google maps, but not on Brightkite.
I’m asi asi
-
I find this frustrating as well. It's sort of a complicated issue that we are working hard to resolve. In the meantime, you can check in using lat-long and placemark that location for easier checkins. I know it's not the most convenient workaround, but it's been helpful to users experiencing this problem.
Soon you will be able to drag and drop your location on a map to select your location. :) -
Inappropriate?I put my address in when I first signed up and it seemed like it worked fine. However, the place mark is gone, and now my home address no worky. Kinda put off by that. But hey, that is why you call this 'BETA' right? How will I know when this is fixed- I am not going to randomly put my address in hoping that one day it will work.
I’m still no soup for you
-
Just to be sure I understand correctly...when you signed up you successfully entered your location and were able to create a placemark? Then the placemark got deleted and now your location that you entered before is no longer showing up? -
Inappropriate?I am pretty sure that it worked. It was a month ago so foggy here. However, if it had not worked- I would remember that.
I’m unsure
-
Inappropriate?uhm..what format is that longitude and lat 'sposed to be entered? decimal or deg-min-sec? Nevermind it worked.
I’m swollen
-
Great! Glad you got it working. You can add a custom label to any lat-long location you use by adding [Insert Name] after your coordinates. Once you are able to click on a map to set your location, it should help with a lot of these types of problems. -
Inappropriate? Its a bit annoying that we can't move the place-mark around the map to the correct position. Since I can't move it to its correct position I won't add that location...
I’m frustrated
-
CoPe, you will be able to drag and drop your location on a map very soon. :) -
Thats what I wanted to hear :D
Any chance you could drop me a line when that happens or better yet just add another comment right here?
THANKS! -
Yes, we will definitely update this thread once that feature is available.
