Brightkite iPhone App - FTW!
I think there should be a Brightkite native app for the iPhone. It would be PERFECT! Check in using our GPS! Uploading photos would be a BREEZE! There's really NOTHING on the iPhone like Brightkite yet. I think the Brightkite community would explode on the iPhone!

Inappropriate?Hi jarofclay73, the iPhone app is in beta right now and we are working hard to get it ready for the public. We are very excited about it too and we want to be sure to work out all of the kinks before we release it.
-
Inappropriate?I'd like to offer myself as a beta tester. I tried using it on my iPhone for a couple months before I gave up because it's just a pain using the web version. I have been just waiting for the iPhone app...
Thanks!

Inappropriate? Thanks for the offer rossb, but unfortunately Apple limits the number of people we can have and currently we are at our limit. You will hopefully not have to wait much longer though.
-
Inappropriate?Lesley, if you're looking for alpha or beta testers, I'd be glad to volunteer. Although I have not done any beta testing on the iphone platform, I am experienced with beta testing on many different platforms.
Thanks,
Roger Wilson -
Inappropriate?*poke* Any hints on when we can expect an update? I think so many are excited about the app and it would be nice to add to my iPhone.

Inappropriate? The iPhone app looks great, and I can't wait for it to pop up in the iTunes store...! Took you long enough, guys...! ;)))
I'd like to repeat my suggestion to include international localization though:
(Too) many iPhone devs ignore the fact that many of their potential users live outside the USA and just neglect including any kind of localization...! Since Brightkite (unlike most competitors) works here in Europe as well please inlcude localization for a few major languages...!!
It's all about the user experience.... :D
(If you need someone to assist you with a German translatio/localization feel free to contact me...!) -
MILE, we do have plans for localized versions of the app, but no ETA at the moment. Thanks for the offer on translating, but one of our founders (Martin) actually speaks German. :) -
Leslie, thanks for the info...! Actually that's what I kind of meant -- if devs/companies even consider it, it's something they might do some day, who knows when...!? :(
But okay, I guess it's better having it on the list than neglecting it altogether...
And as for Martin -- I hope "speaks German" means he is a native speaker...!? I've seen some nasty translations now and then by people who thought they spoke the language...! ;)))
Anyway, still looking forward to the iPhone app, because right now I usually don't bother that much with doing more than posting a check-in note while on the road -- as nice as the web app is (and it really is as good as they get), it's still too tedious usually...
