Inappropriate?Yes! That's actually the main purpose of placemarks. From your mobile, you can do exactly what you described: @placemark. On the web, if you enter one of your placemarks in the top search bar, we take you to that place.

Yes, but... Why doesn't my placemark's nickname (i.e. "Home" or "Pizzeria Delfina") appear in addition to the address field as my location? Addresses are largely meaningless to me when I see someone else's check-ins.
I realize showing one's home address could be a privacy issue, but could you not just choose whether to show the Placemark nickname ("Home") OR the Placemark address OR both? -
Bronwyn, we're working on a better way to handle this, along the lines that you suggested. Stay tuned :) -
Inappropriate?Hi Russ.
To check in at a placemark you can text exactly that. For example if I create a placemark at "2911 Walnut Street Denver CO" and call it "work", to check in there I can just text @work. Additionally on the web you can type Work into the location search bar and it will take you to the specified placemark place page.

This does not work for me. I send a "@home someTextGoesHere: and I receive back some confirmation message with locations that have Nothing remotely close to what I have created. It is like my Placemarks are ignored. I created a PlaceMark called "AJ" months ago and today I sent the text "@AJ Voted" and received back a message asking me if I meant the grocery store "AJ's". -
Hi Robert, currently you have to check in to your placemark first and then post your note in a separate message, sending them together will confuse the system (as you've seen). So you would send one message "@AJ" and then a second one that says "!Voted". We understand sending numerous messages is cumbersome, which is why we're working on consolidating these commands so that you can do it all in one go, like you were trying to do. We don't have an exact ETA on this, but keep an eye out for it soon. :)
