Checking in with GPS coordinates no longer works
I can no longer check in with GPS coordinates via E-mail or SMS. I just don't get checked in at all. This is a major inconvenience, as most of the locations I visit are on campus and don't have street addresses.
It seems that this doesn't affect, however, GPS coordinates referenced by placemark seem to work just fine.

Inappropriate?Kichigai, I just tested this and both SMS and email worked as expected. Can you send an example checkin to lesleyATbrightkiteDOTcom?
-
Inappropriate?I discovered this didn't work today either. This is by far my favorite feature of brightkite as I hike/geocache a lot and like to check in and post from locations sometimes miles from a physical address. Its worked great in the past and *really* hope it comes back!
I’m super mega-bummed

Inappropriate? An example from me would be I search for (in the search bar at mobile website/regular old website) "N 47 30.240 W 122 03.524".
That would put me on the map at that location and I could check in. No longer can from regular website/mobile website (and OP seems unable from SMS/email).
The website now returns a 'Sorry, we couldn't find any places matching your query.' message :(
I’m sad

Inappropriate?Hi cbellevie, we accept coordinates in this format:
39.762388, -104.982315
I've tested those across all platforms and they worked for me. We're not sure how those other coordinates used to work for you, they should not have been supported. Sorry for any inconvenience.
-
I actually tried using that format just the other day, but I didn't get any results. I tried using both SMS and e-mail. -
What coordinates were you trying to use? If it's a sensitive location you can email them to me at lesleyATbrightkiteDOTcom. -
It's been e-mailed to you. -
Got it and I think I found the problem. It's failing because of the custom label you are trying to give the coordinates. With some changes we've made recently the custom label feature is not playing nice with coordinates anymore. We are working on finding a better solution for these custom labels, but we don't have any sort of ETA at this time. If you just send the coordinates via SMS and email they should work just fine. We know a lot of people out there used the labels with coordinates, so we apologize for changing things up. They should behave much better in the future. -
Inappropriate?Any news on this issue? It has been 8 months and this still doesn't work. Without the ability to add labels, this really is not a very useful feature. It wouldn't be so bad, if searching for places actually worked, but half the locations I try aren't located. Very frustrasting.
I’m frustrated
