Duplicate "check in here" messages in my timeline
I noticed that when I check in to my location, in my timeline I see duplicate check-ins mere seconds apart (I think). For the last week or so, my check-ins at home are doubled. What I think is happening is a UX bug: when I load my Placemarks page and "check in" for one, it logs a check-in. But then it automatically takes me to the location I clicked, with no visual confirmation that my check-in was already recorded. So I check-in again, which behaves the way I expect except it seems to log it twice (because of the no-message previous check-in).
I realize that now that I understand how it works, I could correct my behavior and only check in once. But I shouldn't have to. What you should do it make the Placemark page check-in link leave me on that page, and popup some other kind of confirmation message saying my check-in is complete. Change the button text or something. Taking me to my location page does nothing—I know the location, because I saved it to my placemarks. I don't need to see the page for it. Either leave me on Placemarks, or return me to my homepage with that checkin noted in my timeline.

Inappropriate? We'll try to get a better confirmation message in.

Inappropriate?incidentally, I know others have this problem, too, because I get duplicate "check-in" texts for random people in my "area".

Inappropriate?I wont even load the iphone app anymore. The buttons have not logical meaning or indication of what they will do. As soon as I open the app its checking me in. I am sure one of these buttons will turn that, but I cant find the information that explains it.

TheDandee, the app will not check you in unless you push the "Check In" button. If you see it find your location, it is not checking you in, it is just locating you and from there you have the option to check in. The next release of the app is coming very soon and the "I am..." screen will be a little clearer. You will also have the option to turn off Location Services and still use the app without it trying to find you. Very sorry for any confusion. -
Lesley, thanks for the reply. I guess the confusion comes from the duplicate posts. I always get the generic location post, and the post with the text I type. So it seemed that it was automatically checking me in. Looking forward to trying the new release. -
Inappropriate?Leslie, upon opening the app, it is locating me and generating an action that identifies my location. What option can I choose to stop this?

If you don't want the app to find you, you can turn off location services in your phone's settings. Or if you get the pop up when you open the app asking if you want to allow location services you can select "Don't allow". Then you would just have to manually search for your location. It's important to note that even though the app automatically finds you, it does not check you in until you tap the check in button. If you're concerned about your exact location being shown, you can modify your privacy settings under More -> Settings -> Privacy. -
This problem appears to be solved in the latest update. Thanks, Lesley.
