Email Notifications: Email invites sent to Hotmail email accounts are automatically junked
Description:
Brightkite email notifications are being sent by default to hotmail’s junk bin.
Created two hotmail.com email accounts, and then sent email invites to these accounts. Both of the email invites were junked.
Test accounts created:
Brightkite01@hotmail.com Password: 444444
Brightkite02@hotmail.com Password: 444444
Repro Steps:
1. Sign into a Brightkite account
2. Select the “Friends” anchor
3. Click on “Discover & Invite Friends”
4. Click on “Invite via Email”
5. Inside of “Your friend’s email”, type in an email address tied to a hotmail.com account (brightkite02@hotmail.com, 444444)
6. Open up hotmail.com account which invite was sent to (brightkite02@hotmail.com, password: 444444)
Result: Hotmail is automatically junking Brightkite Invites (probably ALL Brightkite email notifications
Expected: No Brightkite email notifications should ever be junked – very bad user experience
Note: I could be wrong, but I think that there is a woman over at Microsoft who only deals with this issue. There is some sort of program that companies can sign up for, for free, which will make it so your email notifications will not be junked.

Inappropriate?YoMama, unfortunately there's not much we can do about this. We've formatted our emails as best we can, but things vary from client to client. If our notifications are getting caught in spam, the best we can recommend is to add Brightkite to your whitelist so they don't get caught there in the future.

Inappropriate?Hi Lesley-
Apparently this is a super bad problem with hotmail. But, I wasn't kidding, there is a woman at Microsoft (don't know her name) who does nothing but help companies so that hotmail won't junk their email.
This is a free program of some sorts, if I remember correctly.
I’m excited
