Friends updates missing; cross-posting to Twitter broken for me (only it seems)
My Brightkite posts are no longer getting cross-posted to Twitter, while I see that my Brightkite friends' posts are. Furthermore, those same friends are no longer appearing in my Brightkite stream on the website. I've turned on SMS to see if they come in there, but so far I've received nothing.

Inappropriate?Treocast, this should be working now. We had a bug yesterday that was preventing updates from going through. Please let us know if you continue to have problems.

That did the trick... thanks! -
Inappropriate?I have the same problem. I've been trying to show my bkite updates in twitter and it aint working.
The thing is that it works for my friends.
I know i have the right settings and password in there. But it just didn't work.
I’m confused

Inappropriate?I'm finding it's intermittent. One out of every three just seem to get "lost."
-
I've noticed that too. -
Inappropriate?Twitter posting is back now. We had to disable this feature while we worked to make it more dependable on our end. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Inappropriate?Thanks, Leslie!
I'm now able to test Twitter and I'm still not getting the expected results, so maybe you (or someone else out there?) can help me understand if what I want/expect is possible.
My Twitter sharing of checkins has the following specified:
"I just checked in to brightkite.com at $place - $street in $city, $state"
When I just checked in now, my Twitter feed entry says:
" I just checked in to brightkite.com at Reston, VA, USA - in Reston, VA"
I was EXPECTING it to say "I just checked in to brightkite.com at Work - Parkridge Blvd in Reston, VA"
I have my privacy set to private, but figured this shouldn't matter in Twitter sharing since you should be able to override that in your custom settings?
Thanks!
Levi

Hi Levi, we apologize for the confusion. Your Privacy settings will override your customized Twitter settings, which is why only your city/state shared to Twitter. Also, currently your placemark names will not share with Twitter, we are working on implementing this though. Right now if you have it set to show your "place" to Twitter, it will share whatever location label is in our database, but it will not show custom labels or placemark names. I hope that helps some. -
Thanks for the clarification, Leslie. So, this begs the question "why"? I mean about privacy settings overriding twitter. Here's the problem. I want to be able to share all my data with my friends, but only some data with the public. There needs to be more granularity in terms of the settings here. I don't want to just have city and state available to send to the public. I want to have something more specific than this, but not so specific as my actual address. I don't want to share my home address with the world, but don't mind giving my neighborhood or street (not street number). Allowing you to publish placemarks would also be very helpful, because then you can "shield" the exact location of a place by just using your own customized name for it, like "work." Or is this possible to do in some other way that I'm just not seeing? -
Yes, I agree that being able to display placemark names would be very useful, it is on our to-do list. One thing you could try (which is actually what I do) is to always post in Public mode. If I am checking in anywhere sensitive, I will just use the street name or an intersection. That way, I never have to worry about what shows/doesn't show up on Twitter. I am in control of what information is disclosed at all times. I know some people are wary of Public mode, but it works until we have some more options in place. -
Inappropriate? My Twitter still isn't updating at all. Seems you're ahead of me.
-
Inappropriate?Lesley, thanks. I thought I'd try your suggestion but I can't see a way to edit my placemarks, and without that, I'm afraid that people will be able to see the exact addresses of sensative locations. Is the only way around this to remove the placemark (and then lose the history entry)?
-
Yea, unfortunately you can't edit Placemarks right now. You are right in that the only way to do it is to delete your old placemark and then create a new one. Editing placemarks is on our to-do list.
