Future check-in
If you offered a "future check-in" you could put Dopplr out of business. It seems like that would be a great addition to your platform for people who travel frequently.
Users could see where their friends were going and make plans.

Inappropriate? There are a few services out there that do future locations effectively. However they don’t make it easy to find interesting people around you who you don’t know yet, in real-time, this is our core focus right now.
One idea we are considering is the ability to say you are attending an event. When the event begins Brightkite will ask you if you are there. If you reply "yes" then we will automatically check you in at the specified location. -
Event check-in is a great idea...especially for people (read: nerds) attending frequent technology events. I don't think many SMS-based services have broken out of the digerati subculture (even Twitter hasn't gone mainstream yet). However, this would be a good idea for mainstream sporting events and the tailgating etc... -
It'd be nice if you subscribed to an event stream of mine and allowed me to check in to those events at certain times... so not check me in automatically, but provide the list of events that I said I *might* be at, and then let me click ONE link -- just like in the Placemarks UI. -
What else would be cool is some kind of integration with last.fm. In last.fm I select that I'm going to see Tapes 'n Tapes at the Bluebird on May 17th. That show comes rolling around and I could get checked in via Brightkite so people interested can see I'm rocking to some tunes. -
Inappropriate?absolutely second. This would be huge, and allow brightkite to swing into the mainstream of event-planning and people-discovering.
Also, I like the idea of last.fm integration, but am not sure how open their API is on the events side of things, perhaps yacobucci should suggest this to the last.fm devs as the brightkite API goes public.
I’m 'meh'

Inappropriate?Revisiting:
It would also be great to include 'in transit' to a location, although I am not quite sure how this would be implemented. so I'm leaving @home to go to @work, and expect a 15 minute travel time.
This would give people at my @work node notification that I'm on my way and give them a chance to respond accordingly.

Inappropriate? On April 18, this idea was shot down. On April 29, the company is considering this idea? I don't understand, miscommunication?
I’m confused
-
Inappropriate?Thomas, sorry for the confusion. We are considering the possibility of using future checkins for things like events, but that's about it. Dopplr and Plazes already do a great job handling the "where will I be" scenarios. Does that answer your question?
-
But the thing is, the post here says "you could put Dopplr out of business", and the other thread said "Dopplr does it just fine". But here, Brady is considering it, and doesn't say "use Dopplr for that" like the other thread did. So, not really.
