Get location information from iPhone 2.0 photo EXIF
New iPhone software has geotag information inserted into iPhone pictures. Why not read the location from this information, save us the trouble of having to say where we're at :) Take a look at my (BadPirate) first photo post in an editor that lets you see EXIF to see what I'm talking about.

Inappropriate?BadPirate, we have a native iPhone app coming and once it is released we won't have to do that. I can't disclose the details or give you an exact ETA, but we have some cool stuff coming. :)

Inappropriate?Heh, well, I figured a native app was on the way (I'm a developer too, so it's all NDA too me buddy)... But you should consider doing a geocoordinate extract from EXIF information anyhow, more and more cameras and phones are being equipped with GPS and it would be nice to email a picture straight from any of those and post your location along with it.
I’m not impressed

Inappropriate?I think EXIF from any photo is a great idea - although I have an iPhone 3G, I also have a fancy-schmancy camera that takes far better pictures, that I'd prefer to be using for photos.
Obviously there is some delay between using one object to take the photo (my Canon) and another to publish the photo (mobile, PC, mac, whatever), and brightkite is seemingly about an instant "hey, this is where I am right now".
Still - other phones in the future might geotag, so why not get to the root of the issue and grab lat/lng from the EXIF and then reverse geocode? -
Marc, this is something that we'll get to sometime in the future. We're considering the best ways to implement this and maintain a good user experience. So stay tuned. :)
