getting sms notifications when seems that it should be off
I am still getting sms notifications. I have turned off (in Account settings/Notifications) the SMS notifications and left the e-mail notifications on. I am now getting the e-mail notifications (after personal error) but I am also getting SMS notifications. Since I need to wait for Verizon to get its act together the SMS component is less useful -- and I am getting many which I need to turn off to catch my breath....is there something I might be doing wrong?

Inappropriate?Which SMS notifications are you getting? Friend requests? Did you turn off nearby notifications, too?
-
Ok -- I am getting mainly checkin notifications. One is from someone local -- the others are like Oregon, Colorado and Missouri -- I am in Napa, CA -- I have nearby notifications on -- but only to do e-mail and set to 2000 meters. These are probably "Trusted Friends" -
Inappropriate?I'm having the same problem. I have Verizon, so I'm sending my checkins and notes to the bkite.com email I was given. When I check in or post a note, I get a notification back on my phone confirming my checkin/post. I don't get one when I post a photo though.
I have notifications turned turned off in my account and I sent the OFF command from my phone as well.
If I have notifications off, I don't want to get the confirmation notifications either. Is there any way to get those to stop coming if notifications are off?

Inappropriate?@brightkite responded to my problem on twitter. I'm still getting notifications on my phone even though I've turned the option off. I'm tempted to cancel my account. Please help!
I'm on AT&T and the notifications I'm getting are nearby checkins.
I’m frustrated

Did you turn off nearby notifications? (NN OFF from your phone, or Settings -> Notifications on the site). -
Inappropriate?Yes. As I said, I turned notifications off on the site.
-
Inappropriate?Could you give me an example of a notification that you received?
-
Martin, I have all checkmarks under SMS cleared, and I still get SMS msgs when a friend checks-in, even if it is not nearby. I'd prefer to only get email. Thanks for your attention to this. -
vassego, go to your friends list, hit edit friendship for each friend, and change the notifications to email. -
Awesome, thanks Martin. That did it. -
Inappropriate?Having the same problem, I turned off ALL notifications, and I still get notifications (brightkite employees don't you have logs that tell you when you've sent notifications???) when friends post a picture.
I’m frustrated since sms messages cost me money!
-
Your nearby notifications are still on. -
Inappropriate?I am getting SMS notifications even tho it's turned off. specfically I'm getting notifcations when a friend checks in or posts a message.
I’m indifferent
-
Never mind. I just answwered my own question
There are settings in notifications. BUT each friend also has it's own notification settings. If you go to a friend and say Edit Friendship, you'll get the notification settings for that friend. Hope this helsp other people. -
Inappropriate?I was also very frustrated that I was receiving SMS notifications even though I thought they were turned off. But then I read gir42's comment above and found out that you have to go and edit your friendship... Not a good user experience, especially when I have to pay for SMS!!! A global setting should be exactly that... global.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate? We know that these notification settings can be both confusing and frustrating. We are working on a global notification option that will remedy this, bear with us.
