GPS location check ins
We need the capability to check in using GPS capability if it's on our phones. For example, searching for a ubiquitous location like a gas station or starbucks, etc., and I checked in somewhere a few miles away then it's impossible to use the "? starbucks" to check in since there are so many locations. Google Maps uses location based cell tower triangulation on my Nokia E61i which works excellent. If I could use that as my location from which to base my search to start that would make life tons easier. Right now I end up not checking in at all since it's impossible. Another simple suggestion would be to use the zip code or intersection or address in the business search. For example today I was at a Shell station at 902 Richmond. Typing "? Shell" and going through 6 pages of results never brought up the listing so I gave up. If I could have typed "?Shell 902 richmond" that would have made life easy!

Inappropriate?Hi Maslowbeer. We are working on GPS versions as supported by device. We are going to support Nokia GPS. This will make checking in much easier, and will operate very similar to how you described. Look for these in the coming months.
One thing to note when finding businesses via TEXT ?businessname. The search is centered around your last check in. The results sort by closest to that point. If you move a significant distance you might want to check in at your new location before "?" finding the business. We are looking at ways to make this less cumbersome.
In the meantime the mobile site might make it a little easier m.brightkite.com
I’m excited about GPS

Inappropriate?Argh, I'd much rather see you guys get location info from Fire Eagle, so that support is not limited to just Nokia.

Inappropriate?Get location from Fire Eagle is on our to-do list.

Inappropriate?Simply give us a check in / leave API to supply GPS coordinates, then I can just write my own simple client for it for my WM6 Professional phone with built in AGPS.
-
I need an option build-in that can automatically check in every 5-10 min (in the background), for the iPhone that would be great! -
yes, something for WM6 Pro users. I know there are TONS of us looking for this!! Please. -
Inappropriate?Hi peSHlr. Our developer REST-based API is 99% finished. We are testing it now and it should be available to the public within a week or two.
I’m excited

Any updates on this application? Im really excited about it. -
Inappropriate? That's really good news. As soon as it's out, I'll add a location update option to my Twitter client (https://twitter.com/peSHIrTweets), which already updates both Twitter profile location (as you can do as well) and TwitterVision location. Would be great to add BrightKite updates to that.
I’m hopefull

No, not really. Development of http://getsatisfaction.com/peshir/pro... has been at a bit of a stand-still. Hope this will change soon. If so, you'll see it both on Twitter and here at GetSatisfaction.
