'Home' => Stored address? 'Work' too? (Check-in Shortcuts.)
If I feel comfortable telling BrightKite where I live or work, then the next time I check in, could it just be from from 'Home' or 'Work'? Wouldn't that be pretty easy to map to my stored 'home' or 'work' (or whatever) location, so I don't always have to put in the full street address?
Unless I'm misunderstanding the point of this service... but, I won't always be checking in from a bright, shiny new place. (Is the point more to 'geo-twittr + photo' where I am, or to 'yelp' about new places?) Much of the time, I'm at 'Home' or 'Work.' (Or on my bike. ;)

Inappropriate?I believe you can do this by adding a place as a "placemark" if I'm not mistaken.

Inappropriate?Fair enough. Then I guess I'd like to amend my idea suggestion to add some support for commonly used words like 'Home', 'Work' or 'School' and say, "We don't know that place yet! Try adding a placemark!" ... maybe even highlight the Placemarks button in the left column. (Anything that helps a user to flow through the site without having to think too much about it or search for help, right?)
Edward Tufte's got my back, I just know it.
I’m kidding

Inappropriate? Can you check in via text by "!home"?
-
Dave, if you placemark your home address as "Home" then via text all you would need to say is "@home" and it will check you in there. -
Inappropriate?Oh I see. Thanks.

Inappropriate? You can set your home, work, school, etc. addresses to placemarks and name them whatever you want (I do believe there are certain restrictions though, like no spaces).
So for example, if you made a placemark with your home address and called it home, you can checkin through sms by simply txt'ing @home.
Anything that starts with a ! is going to post that txt to your placestream. Hope this clears up any confusion. If you have any other questions, I recommended going to the help section (on brightkite) and then checking out the screencasts, there is one for placemarking.
