How To Post Location To Twitter Without Address?
Is there a way to get the place name to post to Twitter with just the place name and no address? With Twitter's limits on characters, the link to the location never seems to make it in when I'm at work.

Inappropriate?Matt, there is a way to do that, but currently it isn't working properly. If you go to Account Settings -> Sharing -> Customize there is a $place variable that is only supposed to share the place name with Twitter, but right now it gives the place name and address. We are in the process of working on this and hope to have it fixed soon.

Inappropriate?I have the same issue... in the "Customize" option next to Twitter it shows that the $name will post only the name of the place (I thought this would put the Placemark name) but it doesn't work... just puts the full address, city, state, zip. Very frustrating... people on Twitter don't know what an address is necessarily... would be much more useful to be able to post something like "I'm at Kelsey Advertising & Design" or "I'm at High Museum of Art" etc.
I’m frustrated

beley, the $place variable is not working quite right, so it will share the place name along with the full address. If there is no place name associated with an address, it will just share the address. You can create custom place names using the main website by entering "123 address [custom name]" into the search bar. Then it will at least share a name with the address to give it a little more context. Fixing these customization variables is still on our to do list. -
Inappropriate?Lesley - what about checking into placemarks... why don't they list the name of the placemark? Any idea when these will be fixed? I would think these were pretty high on the list of bugs to squash.

Inappropriate?Unfortunately we have no plans to share placemark names to Twitter. Placemark names are really intended to be short nicknames that you give places you frequent so that it's easier for you to checkin over SMS and email. They're not labels that others get to see. However, you can create a placemark from a location you've given a custom label and that will be visible by others and share to Twitter when you use the $place variable. For instance, I can create a test label:
http://brightkite.com/places/e3838dce...
And then placemark it:

Then the label I've created will share to Twitter when I check in there:

We do have some improvements to make with both the custom labels and the Twitter customizations, there are just some higher priority items that need to be taken care of first. We plan to tackle both of these as soon as the resources are available.

Inappropriate? Thanks, that helped a lot. From what I see above it looks like I can still check in at one of my placemarks (which is really easy from my iPhone) and it will have the custom label. I'll give that a try.
I'll be REALLY happy when we can opt not to have the full address show.
I’m thankful
