I received an invite e-mail although I'm already a member.
Yesterday I received a Brightkite invite to the same e-mail address that I'm already registered with. I think it would be a good idea if the user who sent me the invite was told that I'm already a member.
Also, there were no names / usernames in this invite e-mail, so I've no idea who sent me it! I feel like I've lost a friend opportunity because:
1. The user wasn't told I'm already registered with the e-mail address they sent the invite to.
2. There were no names in the invite e-mail I received.
Thanks!

Inappropriate?Craig, I know this can be frustrating. This is something that we will get to down the road, but we have some higher priority items to get out the door first.
-
Inappropriate?Happened to me as well. Would be nice to know at a minimum who the friend is so that I can let them know I'm already using BK.
I’m frustrated

Yea, unfortunately if they don't check the box in the invite form to add the person as a friend, it keeps the sender anonymous. -
Inappropriate? Please include the name of the user sending the invite, then I can at least find them and friend them manually. I don't care if I get hundreds of invitations when I've already signed up, so long as I can figure out where they've come from!
-
Inappropriate? We leave it up to the user to choose whether or not they want to friend the person they are inviting. Some people choose to remain anonymous.
-
Hold on, non-friend invitations are *supposed* to be anonymous?
Isn't that, well, really really dumb? -
Inappropriate?Me too, even went through trouble of signing up under different name(wife's)
But didn't find who sent invite
I’m feeling like i wasted my time
-
Inappropriate?+1 for the lack of names being annoying.
If the intent is to allow the inviter to remain anonymous, some boilerplate to that effect might re-target that annoyance at the inviter rather than at you guys.
I’m irritated

Inappropriate? This has been an open problem for three months already. Lesley said that you will automatically be friended (optionally) to your inviter. That makes sense to me, but I still don't understand why Brightkite hasn't thrown in at least the username of the inviter. It can't be that hard! Meanwhile, for those of us with an account that get these anonymous "kind soul" invites are not getting connected to the very users we WANT to be connected with: our friends.
Now, I'm not going to send an email to my entire contact list every time I get a Brightkite invite (I'm not even sure I want to publicize this until I believe it has good support or at least is easy to use. So far, the easy to use part is severely lacking because of this outstanding issue with connecting with friends). Nor am I going to search one by one for my friends using the Friend Search...
I was really excited about this product when I found it, but I am increasingly doubtful that this product is going to have much of an impact. From the Brightkite FAQ:
"With Brightkite you can see where your friends are, what they’re up to, see what's going on around you, and meet real-world friends."
This is going to be very difficult if you don't have any "friends."
I’m sad
