Is or will it be possible to attach a photo to a placemark?
Is or will it be possible to attach a photo to a placemark? This way when I Check In at that place it shows the actual place and not the place across the street (on google map's street view)

Inappropriate?You can check in at a placemark and post photo's to that place now.
Unfortunately its not easy to control the direction that Google street view shows. Sometimes it shows the wrong direction by default.
Another thing that may help you, you can give places custom names by typing the following into the top place search bar:
address[name]
Example: 2911 Walnut St, Denver, CO 80205 [Brightkite HQ]
