Is there a date for an iPhone App?
Is there an iphone App in the works? The iphone website is great but you're going to lose out to other services w/o an App

Inappropriate?thecapacity, our app is still in the works, but it will be coming out very soon. You can read more about it here: http://blog.brightkite.com/2008/07/10...
I’m psyched about the iPhone app
-
Inappropriate?Awesome, I'm excited about it... the other services kinda stink .. although I could see where some are a bit different (i.e. they allow tagging /searching of places e.g. "bookstores near me" but no zooming, etc...
If you want a beta tester and feedback I'll be happy to help!
Till then I'll cross my fingers & check out the blog!
I’m confident
-
I'm not sure how we're going to handle the beta, but shoot me an email at lesleyATbrightkiteDOTkom and I'll pass your info along. :) -
Inappropriate?Oh incidentally I don't have a 3G phone either... it's the SW that makes the difference and I don't think there's enough HW change to matter (though you may have to implement greater error correction and sometimes my phone tells me I'm in Colorado when I'm in MD :> )
I’m sneaky
-
Inappropriate?I am very excited for this app, but unfortunately do not have a iPhone 3G, just a 2G iPhone.
My only hope is that you guys give the 2G iPhone people just as good of capabilities to get our location right. =)
I’m excited
-
Inappropriate? Thanks for all of the excitement guys, we're really excited about it too! And yes, the app will take into consideration all of the 2G users out there. :)
-
Awesome, this is what I want to hear! Thanks! -
Inappropriate?I have a 3G and will be willing to beta test. Emailing you lesley...
I’m looking forward to native
-
Inappropriate?I do have an iPhone 3G, which is what I've been waiting for before really throwing myself into BrightKite. I'd love to beta-test :-)
-
Inappropriate?Any update on the app? Not trying to rush things but last I saw was by the end of the month and as a new user to bright kite, i'm really looking forward to it!
-
KaJe, we're still working really hard to get this app ready. Keep an eye on our blog for a status update about this soon. I'll also be sure to post an update here when we do. :) -
Inappropriate? Also not trying to rush this. Just looking for a status update. What's going on?
I’m curious.
-
Inappropriate? An update would be great. I didn't notice any new status since the first announcement
-
Inappropriate?Keep an eye on our blog (blog.brightkite.com) for an update about the iPhone app. :)
-
I've been keeping an eye on your blog for an update about the iPhone app. So far doing that hasn't made a post appear -
Inappropriate?Oh.. we have ... Oh we have. (I look at the blog every day.) Ok... I'll go check it out.
(ed. well.. as of 7:37 on 8/4 ... nothing new to report)
-
Inappropriate?me too...been checking the blog and just left hanging. july came and went. some sort of update would be nice.
I’m frustrated
-
So the update is acknowledgement that it's late? We already knew that. -
Inappropriate?IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII just wanna cry. Put your iPhone app around me, baby, put your iPhone app around me, baby.
-
Our team is still plugging away on the iPhone app. We will post an update on the Brightkite blog when we have some cool stuff to show you. :) -
Inappropriate?I am really really really hoping this kills Loopt because I'm itching to get my less techy friends on something that has a decent interface and proper privacy controls. Please let it work for my original EDGE iPhone and still allow auto-locating.
I’m anxious
-
Inappropriate?I'm sorry to have to say this, but this is really getting silly. There are new iPhone tracking apps being launched every day. It's more then a month ago now, that the native iPhone app was announced, it's about time to release it!
Oh, and please make sure it's not only released in the US appstore :-S
I’m really terribly sad
-
I COMPLETELY agree. -
indeed. i have no idea why app stores have to be different (i guess i understand sometimes) but there are a lot of apps that i just can't understand... -

Inappropriate?Yep I totally agree. I think it's frankly lame of BK to throw out the "we'd rather have a stable app" excuse. There's no excuse for not releasing something on day 1, much less now 6 weeks later? We have a large handful of quite stable apps out there that do the exact same thing as BK (some of them on day 1!) What is BK's problem? Clearly for one it's bad programmers and/or bad product managers.
By not having even a minimally functional app on day 1, BK lost, lost big, and continues every day to lose iPhone users that will never come back. BK at this point must not only come out with a good app, but come out with a great app that toally blows away the competition in every way (and of course be free). Unless BK has new functionality on the backend that they haven't yet divulged, there is no reason to expect that BK can do this. They are now fast becoming an "also ran" in the localized-pictureified-twitter race. Sorry.
I'll still try it when it launches, but I honestly don't expect BK to be able to catch up to all these other apps and companies that have such a head start. Plus, surely twitter itself (or facebook) can tomorrow integrate all this stuff into their system and suddenly there's no reason to bother with a third party site?
I’m sad, frustrated
-
Would have to agree there. All it takes is the facebook app which is already out and stable enough on the iPhone, to do an upddate. With its very large user base it would own this space. -
Inappropriate?davebarr is right. Once Facebook updates to include GPS locations (and they are planning on it), it will make BrightKite irrelevant for anyone to join, IMO. Best to get an app out and loyal following before Facebook prevents that.
-
Inappropriate?Hey guys, check out the blog. Not sure what the time frame is, but they are starting a private beta now.

I’m happy.
-
Inappropriate? Are there any updates available ? How's the beta doing? ... estimated number of months left for releasing the application? Will the election be over before the app is released?
I’m waiting
-
Inappropriate?Ditto.. getting tired of the wait. Thinking of using loopt now that they have a new version out. Any sort of update on the brightkite app would be nice.
-
Inappropriate? Thanks to everyone for their patience. The iPhone app is coming along very nicely, I have included a couple of screenshots:

I’m excited

Are we ever going to get a date? :-\ I think thats what most people are waiting for. -
yes, a date would be nice. or at least more transparency on progress -
thanks for the update! the app looks fantastic, and i can't wait to use it. -
I agree with haruszpapa... more transparency and clear explanation of the delay, or set a date and stick with it for better or worse. You're starting to lose me a little bit with the vague postponing, and I dropped Twitter as my main microblogging for you guys because I think you do it right most of the time... The iPhone delay seems kind of silly at this point. I say it with love, but get yer butts to iTunes and release the app already. ;) -
Inappropriate?Nice!
-
Inappropriate?is the iphone app gonna be free or pay???
-
The app will be free. :) -

Can you confirm that the Brightkite iPhone application has been submitted for review to Apple's App Store? -
@pottedmeat. ars technica just posted a review, saying it was just posted... you can find it here: http://arstechnica.com/journals/apple... -
I was aware that Ars Technica said it was posted, I was asking for confirmation from Brightkite -
i'm sorry, i thought you might have missed this. obviously you didn't. -
No worries. It's just that with the rate things have been going, I'd prefer to hear that it's actually shipping from the company shipping it :) -
Hi, sorry I missed your comments. Yes, the app is in Apple's hands and awaiting their approval. :) -
Inappropriate?I have tried the app and so far it works brilliant. Available on the AU Appstore now for free!
I’m thankful
