List of popular places near me?

I've found myself wondering, what are some good restaurants or hangouts near me? I think it would be cool to call up a list of the "most popular locations near me" based on some metric along the lines of "most unique visits in the somewhat recent past (say, month)". That could be a cool way to discover new places to go that I might not have known about.
