Locations aren't always personal
This seems to be built around personal locations, but many of my locations are shared...yet, there is no way to hook my locations into someone elses locations. Why is it structured like this and will you have a way to generalize locations in the future?

Inappropriate?Would make sense also. I wish I could say something like missrogue:home and then I would be located to your place. This would also taken into account the trust level between the friendship association.

absolutely seconded (and the reason i came to the board).
it would be great to have global and group locations as well, so i can easily tell the world that i'm at nike's portland office#2 (nike:pdx2) or an NBA team's home arena (nba:blazers), or globally that I'm at the eiffel tower (g:eiffel) -
Inappropriate?A lot of this seems like reinventing the Plazes.com wheel. If we could name locations (i.e. restaurants, nightclubs, offices, etc.), there's a greater chance we could all "check in" at the same location when appropriate.
I’m amused

Inappropriate?placemarks will only go so far, and this is an example i think of where they might not work.
I’m undecided

Inappropriate? We'll be adding some functionality so you can check in with a person already at a location. For example, you'd just text "with username" without needing to type in the full address or do a search for the business.

Inappropriate?as a followup, this is now possible, using 'join username' syntax:
