Notes to Twitter: Character limit with URL
When I post a note to BrightKite, I have it automatically sent to Twitter. I really like that BrightKite shows the character limit for a note - 140 - but because I have this forwarding to Twitter, I'd like it to have some way of taking into account the number of characters that the additional BrightKite URL adds to my note (and therefore to my Twitter post).
For instance, if I post a 140 character note that goes to Twitter, it is shortened on Twitter because the BrightKite URL is added too. The only way round it is subtracting 25 characters from my 140 limit, so I know when to stop typing to create a note that shows in full on Twitter.
(Also, this is further compounded because I have Twitter feeding my Facebook updates, which means my updates may have a message then a "..." cutting off the end of the status update.

Inappropriate?Hi Olly, we understand that this can be somewhat inconvenient for our users. We don't really have plans for anything like this, but we will take it into consideration. There have been other requests for a feature like this. One thing you can do is customize your Brightkite posts that go to Twitter and take the link out altogether if you would like to show your full post. You can do this under Account Settings -> Sharing -> Customize. I hope that helps some.

Inappropriate?Thanks for the reply.
I actually really like the BrightKite URL - it's great that friends can pin-point me on a map and, if they are registered users, comment on my note.
Would it be possible to find a compromise? For instance, if a user has registered a Twitter account with BrightKite, when they go to post a note, there will be a small check-box:
[X] Include BrightKite Note link?
The box is ticked or set to "yes" by default. The number of characters available reflects this. If the user selects no, or un-checks the box, the number of characters available for the note changes to reflect that more characters are now available.
How does that sound?
I’m optimistic
