Posting to Twitter is broken
Your Twitter credentials seem to be invalid!
No - they are not, nothing has changed - I just re-checked my login details and they are indeed correct, even though after re-inputting them under Sharing in BrightKite I still get the same error... my Twitter profile is Public, there is no reason why this should have all of a sudden broken, especially when I haven't changed anything. Inappropriate?I am not getting the credentials error, but Brightkite hasn't posted to Twitter for me in several days.

Bruce, it looks like you have your privacy for "everyone else" set to hidden, and currently Twitter gets treated like everyone else. Down the road you will be able to set Twitter as a friend, but unfortunately we don't have an ETA on that yet. In the meantime, if you open up your privacy setting to city level for everyone else or if you post publicly your activity will share to Twitter. -
Inappropriate?Hi,
I'm just trying to get started this morning to get Brightkite to feed into Twitter & Facebook, and it's failing to both. Is there a system problem right now? I believe that I'm doing everything correctly.

Louie, you are posting in private mode with "everyone else" set to hidden and currently Twitter and Facebook get treated like everyone else. If you open up your privacy settings to city level, your activity will share to both services. -
Thank you, Leslie! I understand now even though you already told Bruce something nearly identical. :) It would have been helpful to have a note on the sharing page telling users to set their privacy settings to city level for everyone else. My Twitter & Facebook settings are already set at be available for friends-only.
My suggesting is for Brightkite to allow you to set Twitter and Facebook as either a friend or a trusted friend separately. Until I'm able to do that, I'm afraid I won't be making much use of Brightkite for updating Twitter & FB.
Thank you! -
Totally agree, it makes much more sense to set these services as a friend. We have plans for that as soon as we knock some bigger items out of the way. We're also looking at putting a notifier on the sharing page when you are in private mode, this should hopefully help with some of the confusion around this. :) -
The only thing I can think of is that since the password field is case-sensitive, you may have mistyped one or more of the letters. That was the only way I could reproduce this error with credentials that I know are valid. If that's not it, let me know and I'll keep trying. :) -
Inappropriate?Hey Lesley, good idea - but no. Copy/pasted my password. Just to be sure I logged out/in to Twitter with that same pasted password. Logged in to Twitter just fine - but still get invalid credentials with it at Brightkite

Figured it out. It's silly, but there was an extra space after your username, so I deleted that and saved and now the error is gone. We should be catching that on our end and stripping out the extra space, so we will fix that as soon as we can. -
Inappropriate?Lesley, that's great news - odd how that seems to have just kinda happened though. Anyway - many thanks, really appreciate your help with this!
Jas
I’m thankful
