Public/Private toggle
My biggest gripe with brightkite is having to delete checkins because I forgot to toggle my private status before I checkin at my house, and/or, forgetting to toggle when I leave my house and marking places private that can be public.
The more people who like this idea, the more it gets noticed.
The company implemented this idea.
The best point from the company

Inappropriate?Hi kristin.
We agree. We are working on a way to designate places as "Always Private". We have encountered the same problem and are working to add this feature. -

Inappropriate?I'd still like to be able to TOGGLE the privacy settings after I've done a checkin and realize the settings were wrong. I'd also like it if after the privacy settings are toggled (assuming the toggle is private to public not vice a versa) then either
(1) I'm asked if I'd like to propagate the checkin through to twitter; or
(2) the now-public check in is automatically propagated through to twitter for me
I guess for (2) you'd have to have some kind of "if this checkin occurred within the last xxx minutes of the privacy setting toggle" condition or else you'd always be sending my last checkin through.
I do a lot more checkins by phone than by email and I definitely forget how to toggle privacy via phone.
The absolute ideal for me would be to combine this toggle on demand with the ability to set the privacy settings on check in done by SMS / mobile by simply adding something to the subject or body of the message (IOW, add a var which if missing just leaves the settings as is or if present, changes the settings to whatever value - "public" or "private" - is sent -- and *DO* KISS :) and let users type the word "public" or "private" for specifying the setting.
Forex, sending the message:
To: abc123@bkite.com (user's personalized bkite address)
Subject: public, my message goes here and will get posted to twitter cause I remembered to change the setting first
versus
To: abc123@bkite.com (user's personalized bkite address)
Subject: private, since I'm in a secret meeting I don't want anyone to know where I am
and of course the necessary default situation:
To: abc123@bkite.com (we know this right?)
Subject: having fun in all the wrong spaces
<< with no "public" or "private" setting specified, so your processing script will need to have an "if NULL" type of situation.
Thanks! :-)

still dissatisfied with privacy toggles and wisting for the perfect world but really loving the special snowflake that is bkite :)
I’m still dissatisfied
