Show place name in private mode.
I'd like to have place names visible when in private mode. I have a "where am i?" badge on my web site which pulls my latest check-in (via Twitter). I want to be able to show that I am at home, at my in-laws' or at my best friend's house without giving away the address. (I use custom place names in brackets to label these places, but those labels don't show when I'm in private mode.)
I understand that not everyone will want this, so it should be a user preference. It could be even more useful as a per-place setting (i.e. Always show place name in private mode).

Inappropriate?HelloKit, thank you for the idea, we will take it into consideration. In the meantime, one thing you could try is checking in publicly and only giving a street name or even a zip code when you apply your label. For instance, street level:
http://brightkite.com/places/93696fc7...
Zip code:
http://brightkite.com/places/dcae1133...
If you do it this way your custom label will always show and you can still maintain your privacy for sensitive locations.

I tried this but it doesn't work at all. For the address I was trying it with, if I use the city and state, BK is tacking on a street that is completely unrelated to where I'm at. If I just use the zip code, it comes up as USA with no city or state. I really prefer not to do it at street level, because in my area the streets can be pretty short and this would pinpoint my location just as well as the full address would. -
We recently changed some things involving the location search and we are still working out the kinks. Adding a label at city level should work, and it does for every other city I was able to find in your visited places. But it seems that one location is a bit buggy as a result of these recent changes. We should have these issues resolved in the next few days. :) -
Okay, am trying it with my other locations now. What about the ugly "Rhode Isl" instead of "RI"? Will this be corrected as well?
