Twitter location field only 30 characters
Location given to Twitter seems limited to 30 characters. Can you instead pass it a less granular address, or lat/long coordinates

Inappropriate?Pottedmeat, unfortunately the 30 character limit is on Twitter's end and not ours. We send them your full location (whatever you have it set to show). We are considering customizable options for setting your Twitter location, like we already do with checkins/notes/photos. In the meantime, you could post in Private mode with your settings for "Everyone else" set to show your City as your location. That way your location will, most likely, fit within the 30 character limit.

Lesley, surely if you are using Twitters API then you should conform to what they accept as a location or not offer to update via their API at all? Maybe you could truncate your location to 30 characters and consider word boundaries? -
Hello -
Inappropriate?I'm sorry if I didn't make it clear when I posted that I knew this was a Twitter issue.
It seems trivial for you guys to do a quick loop until you find the first radius that's under 30 characters, and post that to Twitter, or give us the option to say "If it won't fit, send lat/long coordinates"
The reason I'm mentioning this is the rumors of Twitter related programs that will start to use this info. It's worth giving Twitter accurate information (eg, city would be of unacceptable accuracy) in this case -
Inappropriate?can you translate the full position to GPS co-ordinates?

Inappropriate?Twitter made some changes to this, so now it accepts more than 30 characters.
David, you can set it to share coordinates to Twitter by visiting your Account Settings -> Sharing -> Twitter -> Customize. It's not an option for updating the location field yet, but you can use coordinates for your checkins, notes, and photos.

The behaviour of the twitter api is strange. If you check in with brightkite you can set/retrieve more than 30 chars.
With other clients you can set more than 30 chars but when you try to retrieve via API the location is truncated.
I've been emailing alex @ twitter to try and figure out what the behaviour should be! -
Inappropriate?Check out this solution for Twitter locations: http://sent.fm/
You can post your location as a short url (http://sent.fm/P) or as a 'short-cut' url (http://sent.fm/seattle+wa) or even tweet your iPhone's exact GPS coordinates.
