Update Twitter's profile location attribute instead of tweeting
Rather than tweet my location, I'd prefer if you updated my location attribute in Twitter.

Inappropriate?Ditto @texburgher! Twittermap.com & other services are using L: addy, geocode, etc. Could then also possibly integrate with Fire Eagle / Fireball... ?

w00t! Now we just need to get Twitter to adopt OAuth! -
Inappropriate?I'd actually prefer the option to update either the location attribute or to broadcast a twitter. I don't want to have to both check in on Brightkite *and* send a twitter with my location. It'd be nice to have Brightkite take care of both.

Inappropriate?I agree with Peter. I am "stuck" in Verizon limbo right now, in that I cannot SMS updates/checkins etc. So I can only check in via the web, which does NOT send a tweet, and instead updates the L. Thus if I want someone to know where I am, without having them to have to inspect my L: field directly, I must post a separate note.
Can we have some logic like:
if checkin is done via web, then tweet "foo checked in at <bar>" much as it is with SMS right now?
Thanks!</bar>

Inappropriate?I like the fact that the Twitter location attribute gets updated by Brightkite, but is there a way to make it set just the city, rather than the exact location? For example, right now my location on Twitter is "Starbucks," which isn't too useful, given that someone looking at my Twitter profile has no idea where on the planet I am. I'd rather it just set the city/state/country.

We are considering adding the customization options to set your Twitter location, like we do with checkins, notes, and photos. In the meantime, if you check in while in private mode and have your "everyone else" settings at city level, only your city/state will be sent to Twitter. I just tested this by checking into Brightkite HQ while in private mode and it set my location to "Denver, CO" instead of "Brightkite HQ".
