what are the chances of an android app...?
so I've opted for the G1 over the iPhone, and am wondering if you guys are thinking about an app for the android platform? With the GPS and all that carry on you could get very quick location-based searches, check-ins, etc etc
What do you think?

Inappropriate? We think Brightkite for Android will be great. (We are actively working on it)

hello Brady. How about a straight-forward upgrade http://i.brightkite.com/ (which works smoothly on android) using http://geo.webvm.net/ to guess the location via Gears? -
We are looking into this now. -

this is one of the best points

Hey all we are actively working on the Android app. To bridge the wait we've just implemented location guessing for Android.
Visit i.brightkite.com, click on "Search & check in". It will use Google Gears to guess your location. -
Thanks Brady! i.brightkite.com looks great! -
Inappropriate?brilliant. thanks a lot for (a) doing it and (b) letting us know. This quite frankly looks more like a smarter substitute than a temporary bridge compared to an application.
I’m thankful

Inappropriate? There is a ping.fm app for Android now. Check out http://www.pingdroid.com and let me know what you think. You can use PingDroid to post to Brightkite now.

love it! thanks for sharing, handy to know! -

I have been using http://i.brightkite.com for months and it works great on Android. Honestly, an application would be nice, but the web page works great. -
Inappropriate? An app done right will always be better than the web site...until that time, the site does the job.

Any chance you can elaborate on what the app would bring Bryan W.?
From my point of view, an app for Brightkite could only bring these two additional benefits:
(1) real-time notifications from your buddies - if you find it useful to be notified in real time and at the expense of battery life (always-on Wi-Fi or 3G is a killer)
(2) automatic location updates sent every xx hours. Now that I push location updates to my Twitter profile, I could see the interest of such a feature.
Otherwise the usability of the optimised Web site using Gears is great and redoing the same thing in a an app makes little sense. Not until the Android market supports billing anyway ;) And yet, unless some advanced features are added, I'd recommend a disclaimer thanking the user for the donation and loading the Web site in a app canvas. Ah ah :) -
Inappropriate? As this topic dates from half a year ago, and now I too got an Android phone, I was wondering what's the status of the app nearing completion?
Currently using the i.brightkite.com site (home-button is too tiny, though) but I would like to get the update notifications to replace what I used SMS notifications for back in the days: up-to-date info without having to check on the site every minute or so..
Thanks for your insight! -
The app is coming along, we still don't know exactly when it will be ready for beta but hopefully soon.
