When can we get SMS working for Australia?
When are we likely to get SMS for Australia (even with an international number like twitter)? I'm having some trouble getting the MMS to email trick working (probably my set up not yours) and so I'm missing an SMS interface.
Apart from that it seems to be working OK - interesting idea, and good integration with Twitter ...
(and could I please have some more invites?)

Inappropriate?Vodafone's MMS thing is weird (it sends an email saying 'you have an MMS, click here to view!') so if you're using that for MMS, it won't work so nicely.
-
Inappropriate?A real number for SMS would also be cheaper than sending an MMS.
Please?
I’m not thrilled at the lack of options, and spoiled by twitter.

Inappropriate? It seems that the number used in the US, 80289, would be an alias for an actual mobile number. If it is possible to give out this number, Brightkite users from outside the US would be able to send to it.
Does such a number exist? Twitter uses this method with their UK number, so unless the system would not be able to handle a larger volume of updates, I can't imagine why this would not be possible. I'm sure international users would not mind sending to an overseas number.
Any chance of getting an official response to this query?
I’m disappointed with the seeming lack of care..

Inappropriate?I'm with intranation - the UK number would be preferable
I’m still a bit jacked with the lack of official response

Inappropriate?I'm with Vodafone AU because data usage costs are acceptable - but trying to use MMS with brightkite? A waste of time. A real sms number would be great. Why is the world so country centric?
I’m upset at being globally segregated
-
Inappropriate? We understand this is frustrating. We are working on getting things in place so that we can support SMS internationally. Please bear with us. :)
-
Inappropriate?@lantrix: I think it's necessary for the world to be country-centric, but it is ludicrous that the internet (or more specifically, websites and web services) are country-centric (localisation aside of course). :)

Inappropriate? We would love to support the entire world via SMS, unfortunately its not that simple. I assure you we are working on SMS support outside the US.
In the meantime you can use Brightkite over mobile email. Put the standard SMS commands into the body of the message. Send it to your Brightkite email account. Its not ideal but seems to be working well for users outside the US. This link has more information:
