Page refresh
Having entered a day's worth of data into BubbleTimer I navigated away from the page (to the blog in fact) and then back again using the back arrow. The data displayed on the page was then about 6 hours old (up to 10:00am rather than 4:00pm). I thought the intervening data was lost, but after logging out and back in again the page showed the correct data.
Not sure if this is expected behaviour but it was certainly worrying until I worked out what was going on.

Inappropriate?pdw63,
That's quite odd, and certainly not the expected behavior. I'll bring this up to Sean so we can discuss it and try to duplicate the problem, so as to fix it. Thank you very much for reporting it, and I apologize for any inconvenience it may have caused you.
Regards,
Eric Musgrove

Inappropriate?Same here.
Using Firefox 3.0.2 with the Adblock plus extensin
(disabled for the bubbletimer site but I figure worth mentioning.) -
Inappropriate?I tested this out and it is related to browser caching and the use of the back button. When you go to the blog and then press the back button, I see that the browser never makes another request to BubbleTimer. It completely loads from it's cache. It loads the last page it got from the server when it requested that URL, which for you, must have been a refresh you did 6 hours ago.
Rest ASSURED. Your data was never in jeopardy. It was safe and sound on the BubbleTimer server the whole time. It's just that the browser that it could show the page w/o asking BubbleTimer and it's cache doesn't take into account all the updates (you bubbling time) to the page that happened since your last page load.
The work around is exactly what you did, press refresh. We'll look into if there is some JavaScript we can add to the page that will get notified of this type of event and force a page refresh.
Thanks,
Sean

Inappropriate? On a related matter, how is Bubble Timer supposed to deal with two computers having the bubble timer page open at the same time? I've noticed some weird behaviour, reminding me of this topic's question, when I had Bubble Timer open simultaneously on my home computer and my computer at university, prompting me to shut down Bubble Timer when I left for university and vice versa. If you click a bubble on one computer, is it supposed to update on the second computer? How does it deal with that?

Tijl,
Eric is right. You won't loose any bubbles. To get the 2 computers back in sync you simply need to refresh the page. That being said there is a request already in the product backlog to make this better. "Push changes that happen in another browser." Ideally, after a short delay you'd see the bubble show up bubbled on the 2nd computer and vice versa. It's not that hard to do technically, we just need to prioritize it with all the other things people want.
Thanks,
Sean -
Inappropriate?Tijl,
All the data is stored on a central server. That is to say, any bubbling you do at work will show up when you refresh the computer at your university.
