Buddycloud is there when you need fast and light (ie on mobile), and Google can do the maps bit (which is expensive and in the end not as interesting as the status & location stuff)

Inappropriate?Or even better, have the option to hook into OpenStreetMap. The data's getting pretty good in major cities, and a spatial interface would be pretty rad.

Inappropriate?I think reling on too many third party apps is bad. Not everyone has the apps needed or wants them.
