Able to play videos without leaving your desktop?
On BumpTop, there should be a feature that lets you pay a video without opening another window. With image files, you can see the image without opening it, and you should be able to do the same with movies. Having play and pause buttons on the video icon, along with pinning the file to the wall or center of the floor and enlarging it to watch without having to leave your desktop. I'd love to see this, or something along the lines of this when I get my Beta Invite. Thanks... sorry for my horrible grammar.

It would be even cooler if the advanced users could choose their own players like VLC, Mediaplayer Classic or Comunity codec ^^

What about a virtual multimedia player? something like the send to printer or attach to mail... show a small multimedia player where you could drag your files to. if you drag a pile, it should create a playlist...
Maybe you can even choose what player to open, if not a fully integrated player...
I’m thinking about it

this is a fantastic idea. An extension of this could be making it very large and hanging it on the back wall, making it almost like a movie theater. If also wanted there should be be an option that lets you darken the desktop, to see it better.
I’m excited

Make this ASAP, its cool! Haha. Have you seen the movies about Microsoft .. whats the name again? They are making some kind of awesome touch screen. It looks a bit like Bumptop but then without physics. They have that too, you can view movies without opening Windows Media Player or VLC player or whatever other application is used for that. -
Microsoft Surface? I can certainly see these two technologies converging on some key areas! -
Nice!
I just had a thought though, Windows 7 focuses on touch-screen. HUGE opportunities there. -
That is a nice idea.
Windows 7 doesn't focus on the touch screen, it just supports it better. -
Inappropriate?Gret idea, i am backing this one :-)

Inappropriate?Hahaha yeah the video feature would really be kool.
At this rate Bumptop is going to transform into a new OS on its own haha. -
Inappropriate? The only problem with this idea is that it will be VERY CPU intensive and they would need to develop a new media player to work, unless they made an extension that makes it possible to use another media player like, WMP, Media Player Classic or ZoomPlayer.

I have a comp running Linux, + compiz, with a 10 year old single core processor designed for word processing, and it ran compiz smo0thly and you can play movies wile dragging a window with applied physics and rotate the cube while watching full screen hi-res movies ON EACH DESKTOP. Do you get my point saying that movie preview icons are .00000000000001 % as processor intensive as that, accept now with a dual core processor that is nothing! -
I think this is a little exaggerated, I've used compiz and compiz-fusion on a single core P4 2.6ghz comp. It was extremely laggy while moving windows and switching to the 3D cube, as for playing HD movies, im assuming you mean 1280x720 or higher? If so, a single core can't possibly play HD videos with compiz in use. It might be a different story if your talking about DivX or XviD videos, but not H.264 video its way too CPU intensive. Unless you had a graphics card good enough to offload the usage of compiz. -
well I cant really remember as it's charger has blown up and I need a new one... -
Well, couldn't the WMP component for IE be embedded into a frame? That would make much more sense. -
Inappropriate?@YoungScripter
It's MS Surface.
And the most of the multitouch stuff that they're implementing on Surface is supposed to be bundled in with Windows 7
I’m wanting to get into the beta

Inappropriate?Great idea! Also, I like the idea of pinning the video on the wall and haveing an option to make the room dark.
I’m excited for BumpTop.

If my idea for an app-loader is executed, you can play your files in your media player through the app-loader. -
Inappropriate?You could add widget support.
Then treat the widget like an icon.

Inappropriate?yeah, I like the idea of being able to playback videos in bumptop, but I can't see myself pinning them to a desktop or anything. I more see it as a way to view a clip quickly to facilitate sorting it. It could lead to very intuitive video editing in collaboration with another app.
Image this scenario. Pinned to the right of your bumptop is your Adobe Premiere or Avid window - a tiny snapshot of that application, which is currently open on your system but minimized. You view a grid of videos, play three and see that two have content you need. You toss them at Premiere, and it pops up and asks if you want to import them.
This ties into the applicaiton instance thing I've been banging on about. Imagine not just throwing files at a printer icon or email icon, but throwing files at ANY application on your system, just like dragging them over the app on the taskbar to load them.
