Inappropriate?Hi Doug,
Can I get some more information? What OS and service pack are you running? You weren't having TexHelper errors or anything before the update? -
Inappropriate?I'm using XP home SP3 on 2.8G P4 with 2G memory. Not using Texhelper.
A reboot didn't fix the problem. -
Hi Doug,
What video card do you have? (Hit F1 on BumpTop to find out) What quality setting do you have BumpTop set to? (Right click on the Settings tray icon and jump over to the Visuals tab.)
If you hit F3 on BumpTop, and then drag an icon around, what kind of framerate are you seeing? -
Inappropriate? You'll have to wait awhile, I haven't had the patience to allow BT to come up
yet. My video is a Intel 82915G/GV/910GL Express chip set. I'm running
1280x960 32bit. -
Inappropriate?Doug,
Have you tried a video driver update? Intel 915 chipsets have shown some poor performance until the driver is updated, based on our own tests.
Our drivers page has updated drivers:
http://bumptop.com/drivers
Let me know if that driver package doesn't work for you (you'll have to do the manual driver update method at the bottom of the page) and I'll see if I can find updated drivers for the Intel 915.
As an aside: The only thing that was changed in 2850 that might affect this is the quality of textures that is loaded. See if you can dial down the visual quality to improve performance. -
Inappropriate?Well, took over a 1minute to move an icon 1inch...got the can't move screen
error; Access denied and then BT crashed. -
Inappropriate? No, your driver upgrade was not accepted by my system.
-
Inappropriate?I upgraded my driver to ver. 6.14.10.4764 from intel. Did not help.
-
Inappropriate?Doug,
Can you try downgrading? Grab the older installer from our website and see if that resolves the problem. If so, we'll take a look at the changes to see what might have caused this. -
Inappropriate?OK, system still slow and getting TexHelper.exe error message - different error this time now showing up when booting.
Application Error
The instruction at 0x7c910f29 referenced memory at "0.0000 etc The memory could not be read.
I'm uninstalling the software until this can be sorted. The update has really impacted system performance and weirdly, dragging and dropping icons seems to fail at times...
-
Inappropriate?Downgrading to 2738 solved my problems...guess you'll be back to the
old drawing board. -
Inappropriate?I have uninstalled for now. Pity I paid for Pro ....Hopefully the support team can get a working version for the Pro customers.
-
Aussie - we're looking into this and will get back to you. You can email us (if you haven't already) at feedback@bumptop.com and we can email you back directly, as well. -
Inappropriate?Just tried ver 2861. It has all the same problems as 2850 did...still unusable.
I’m sad
-
Doug,
No error messages? Just takes forever to load? Is the BumpTop using 100% CPU during this process? -
Doug,
Could you try moving all the icons/shortcuts on your desktop to a temporary location, then starting BumpTop and see if it takes forever to start? It is possible there is something on there that is causing the problem.
You can then gradually move items back until you've isolated the problem - and if you can tell us what it is (i.e. you discover a certain type of file causes this problem) we can get the problem fixed.
I realise this is inconvenient currently - so we're building better ways to detect this in the future. -
Prior to doing all of this, start BumpTop with the "-log" command switch:
So from a command prompt, do "cd \program files\BumpTop"
then "bumptop -log"
A log file will be created of the startup process in your profile directory. Email this to me at feedback@bumptop.com.
Profile path: http://bumptop.com/support/technicalq... -
Got your log - we'll take a look the next few days. In the meantime, see if you can get BumpTop to start by removing items from your desktop, then gradually adding them back in. -
Inappropriate?I reinstalled after hearing about the new version. Gotta say, it is worse in terms of speed. I am getting constant disk activity and slow response from the software (for example, accessing Settings).
Still getting Texhelper errors but less frequently after the new version has been installed.
Also, is there any way to make the desktop grow and shrink when moving to a different monitor (ie notebook to 21 inch) just as windows does. A real pain having to set up all the icons each time.
I don't think the company should have made people pay for Pro when the software still has so many bugs. I wish I hadn't bought Pro and just tried the free version. Hoping still the company gets the issues sorted out soon.
The implementation of a number of the features just doesn't work well (covered in other threads) .
I appreciate the effort the company and reps are making with this software but it would seem it was rushed to market (certainly for paying customers) -
Aussie,
That's interesting. If you hit F1, can you just confirm you're running 2859 or 2861 ? The new version shouldn't display any TexHelper crashes - since we catch the error inside BumpTop now.
Resolution changes: We're looking into this for an update that's in the works.
I'm really sorry for all the troubles you've experienced. If you're still unhappy with things, feel free to email billing@bumptop.com and we can do a refund as it was never our intention to deceive! BumpTop has been in testing for the past year, with thousands of users. We're continually working on the product, and we'll be working hard to improve it now. -
I reverted back as 2861 was causing a Windows error and slowing the system too much. When I saw the update I wanted to try it but now, 2859 will not take the update.
I don't expect a refund Justin. I'll wait for a better more stable version. However, I don't believe it is a stable commercial version at this stage
Thanks -
Inappropriate?Well, It's been a month now...still no resolution to this? I see your current build is 2859 from April 17th. What's next? when?
BTW, selective removal of desktop icons was no help.
