Being able to choose which directory to show in BumpTop (other than the desktop)
Use a folder as the folder where are located the icons instead of the Desktop folder. Like if I'd like to have, as icons in BumpTop, the files in whatever directory of my computer, instead of the icons of my Desktop.

Inappropriate?I think this is a must. I don't organize anything on my desktop at all. If BT could simply take the place of explorer for folder browsing, it would be a big step forward I think.
Let me double click a folder and have the bumptop view move there, showing me those files.
I think that would be far more useful than the embedded bumptop view in explorer.
Maybe a door on the wall for each folder?

Inappropriate?I would really like to redirect BumpTop to another folder besides '~/Desktop/' so that it's more customizable and self-contained.
I’m in agreement

Inappropriate?Hi everyone,
There is an "undocumented" commandline option that allows you to specify another location.
BumpTop.exe -dc:\temp
will start BumpTop, pointed to the c:\temp folder
We also have a shell extension that allows you to turn an Explorer window into a Bump space, but it's currently unreliable. It's on our list of bugfixes and we hope to have this fixed up in an upcoming release.

Inappropriate?Thanks for the info.
I tried the shell extension. I personally don't think its as good as the main bumptop experience.
I would stop using explorer altogether if I could browse my filesystem using only bumptop.
Being able to go into a folder from within bumptop would make this an amazing explorer replacement.

Kudos on the great work so far. -
Inappropriate?hmmm that command line doesnt seem to work...
my desktop link goes like this: "C:\Bumptop\bumptop.exe\ -dc:\temp"
and still doesnt use a different folder than the desktop folder..
couls you put an example on how to implement this?
I’m hoping that commandline works
-
Inappropriate?I think you need
"C:\Bumptop\Bumptop exe\" -d"c:\temp" -
Inappropriate? You'll have to change into the directory where BumpTop is installed.
Start, Run, "cmd"
cd \program files\BumpTop
BumpTop -dc:\temp
If you're running a x64 OS, you'll need:
Start, Run, "cmd"
cd \Program Files (x86)\BumpTop
BumpTop -dc:\temp
Keep in mind that this is not designed to act as a directory browser/Explorer replacement - but a way to quickly redirect BumpTop elsewhere for testing purposes only.
Hope that helps! -
Inappropriate?I set up a directory in C:/Documents and Settings/david/My Documents/Bumptop.
I made a shortcut to "C:\Program Files\BumpTop\BumpTop.exe" -d"C:\Documents and Settings\david\My Documents\Bumptop"
Start in is still "C:\Program files\bumptop"
I click the shortcut and get bumptop based on my new directory. However it has some limitations:
It is in a window. I can maximise the window but not set it to the background. That means that if I have an open window in the foreground and do anything in bumptop the window disappears behind bumptop.
It does not always display icons for shortcuts correctly. For example the only way I could get a recycle icon was to use an icon editor to extract the icon and save it as a png then change the icon to that. Anyhow it was not possible to dump stuff in it.
I would really like to ba able to leave my desktop as it was and have bumptop running absolute full screen on a separate directory. -
Inappropriate?David,
You can try using Ctrl+Backspace, then Ctrl+M to toggle it into full screen mode, but this is a workaround as BumpTop was never meant to be run in this way... =)
We're aiming to have the Bump This Folder functionality working in the future so that you can browse other folders with BumpTop in Explorer, but this would not display BumpTop in fullscreen.
Could you explain a bit more about what you're trying to do? -
Inappropriate? Thanks Justin. That does just what I want.
I suppose I want to have my cake and eat it! I would like to be able to use the normal desktop sometimes with all the icons spread out and to use BumpTop most of the time - perhaps even on another monitor - as my working area with the program icons all thrown in a folder or pile.
With this workaround I can do this. Thanks. -
Inappropriate?well, we would like to be able to have BumpTop set on a folder we select, and not always on the desktop folder...
if i delete a shortcut on bumptop it deletes from my desktop, i for example use bumptop on my secondary monitor and would be VERY usefull to have it set on a diferent folder with different shortcuts......
it would be a great option to have...
I’m expectant :P

Inappropriate? How about a new "circle option" to open up a folder as a new BT floor (keeping whats on the three walls static).
Example: Right click on a folder to get circle option, select open as "New Floor"
Going into a directory as "New Floor" the original desktop icons would fly up and vanash, then the floor would populate with the new current directory icons.
It would be like a custom work area for each directory.
To get back - Right click on an empty area on the floor. Circle option (at this level) has an option for "Home View" (or main desktop).
Icons will get pulled together in the previous state (a stack or folder) and the original desktop icons all drop back down.

Inappropriate?I would find this really useful. Using bumptop on an netbook with limited space on c drive is a little tricky as I can't really afford to have anything on my desktop...
This would fix that as I could then have bumptop open a folder from an SD drive as my main desktop (which I could then move from machine to machine. -

Inappropriate?I think more customization and more features in general as time goes by will make BumpTop go far. Very far.
I’m optimistic

Inappropriate?I would love the ability to BumpTop all directories and I think DeeMAN067 has an excellent idea:
"Example: Right click on a folder to get circle option, select open as "New Floor"

Inappropriate?Excellent feedback. Just want you to know this is an area of hot discussion within the team these days and we are looking address it in some future releases.
We want to be able to apply that BumpTop goodness to folders beyond the desktops, and our users are telling us that loud and clear. We hear you!

Inappropriate?Great!!!
BumpTop has put the fun back in using the computer.
It ́s a truly revolutionary approach to H/C interaction.
There is however ONE major drawback....
Evertime you launch an application. It may be Word, it may be a Browser, it may be Flash or just a plain simple Texteditor, you get reminded of how boring it is to get back to the plain old FLAT reality....
*LOL*
I develop medical educational sites. I work mainly in Flash but of course I use other applications for coding, graphics and so forth.
Trying BumpTop really got me thinking.
But do you really have to be flat att all using your computer...?
Do you?
Well the truth is that maybe sometimes you have to as I see it now. I ́m thinking out load (as always...)
Maybe you have to flat developing things to make them look good in BumpTop.
I started working with web when Netscape was in beta. I did a lot of html text coding then. Enters the WYSIWYG editors. Now I ́m using both methods.
It ́s quit possible to take the same approach on BumpTop.
Sometimes things have to be flat. And sometimes not.
F.i. writing a Word document does not necessarily mean that the application has to be 2D on the screen. Does it?
IMHO BumpTop is the next Computer System GUI.
Finally!!!
