Boxes and shelves for folders.
Folders should be represented by boxes and/or shelves, drawers, trays, etc. Then you could just toss files into them and quickly browse folders and organize things all from the desktop.
Alternately you could just have boxes for usb drives.

Inappropriate?True! Should have ability to create a copy of your real working place and orient in it. Add boxes, tables, shelves, flowers (!), staplers, etc.
I’m excited

Inappropriate?i like your idea of shelves and folders.....
improves the oranisation of your files....
having a shelve for "work" and for "private" and so on. and in these different shelves you have different folders. in your "private" shelve you could have a folder for: fotos and one for movies and so on.....
I’m liking this idea dude!

Inappropriate?I think the boxes idea will work best because of the shape of the bumptop deskspace. It is essentially a box, meaning moving from the desktop to a box on the desktop is as simple as zooming into another box. So, creating a new directory could be creating a new box, and each new box should have within it a 'back' object, which is undeleteable. Shelves are possible already with some workarounds and I don't think the ideas of drawers and trays hold much weight because that would require desktop real estate be split up further (and this being a physics based desktop management system, I am seeing icons falling off this desk, constantly :P )

Inappropriate?I would really enjoy being able to add shelves or boxes. No opinion to the non-functional generic deskspace items though.

Inappropriate?I just had another idea related to this. Similar to a pile, you should be able to view the contents of a box by stringing it out (and the animation for this could be to just click inside the box and drag out)
