Inappropriate?I've been waiting on this software to come out of private beta for some time now. Itching to get my hands on this thing. But still have some questions: Will this work on a normal PC or does it have to be a tablet? -

BumpTop definitely works well with a standard PC with a mouse, though you can use it a touch-sensitive device as well if you have.

Inappropriate?I've personally been aching to try Bumptop since about July last year, and give it a good thrashing. I'm interested to also try it on an x64 system and see if that goes smoothly. I signed up to the newsletter as soon as I heard about it, and was therefore thoroughly gutted when I wasn't included in the first wave of beta testing. I am, and always have been, an avid beta tester, and as Microsoft will probably know from when I tested Office 12 in December 2006, I provide copious amounts of constructive feedback (Somebody must have had to wade through all those emails, but then again thats what they're paid for). I appreciate that you wish to keep testing selective at the current time, but I would be finally gratified once and for all if you would strongly consider allowing me to participate in the current wave of beta testing (which would also save me the daily disappointment after checking my email account and the website)

Inappropriate?Its probably best described as a "Shell enhancement", since it doesn't necessarily replace the existing shell.

You need to make the beta signup have a platform option, so that people who use mac and want to use the mac beta will not be invited to the 'windows' beta by accident. Or, so there will be separate lists and you won't be lopsided when the mac version comes out, due to inviting more windows users (via indiscriminate chronological order). -
We're working on a separate provision for Mac invites on the website. Stay tuned.

Inappropriate?So this is running ontop of explorer.exe? Would it function as a replacement for explorer.exe like Litestep? Have you tried it with wine in a Linux enviroment? I would like to try this as a shell replacement for Windows XP SP2. Looks more promising then the now defunct Looking Glass project.

Inappropriate?Explorer.exe still runs, but we become your desktop, and integrated as a view for existing explorer.exe windows.
Haven't yet tried it with Wine on Linux, but have had some sucess with CrossOver on Mac.
We work with Windows XP and Vista at the moment. -
Inappropriate?You know you can replace explorer.exe as the shell= value in the win.ini and still load explorer as a file manager when needed with no need to run it in the backgroud. Unless of course there is some need to load it at boot.

It's been quite some time now, and still haven't heard any news either on the BumpTop page or here. I thought maybe I did something wrong when I signed up to the list. But after seeing the previous reply, seems it's still in private beta. Is that still the case? How's it coming along? Could you give us some updates, please? I'm sure I'm not the only one dying to hear whets going on in the fantastic 3D world that is BumpTop.

We've been really bad about keeping people updated and plan to change that real soon. We've started a twitter (http://twitter.com/bumptop) and will be updating the website with more current info. Things with the beta are going great, we're iterating the software based on all the user feedback we're receiving and growing the our beta accordingly.

Aww... now that's just plain cruel. I am already foaming at the mouth hoping to get a beta version to test and you send me to a twitter page with a new video of an even better looking BumpTop with a photo feature? That's just not right :( Now I am even more psyched up. Guess I'll have to start digging for an alternative to tide me over until the beta comes out. Sigh...

I signed up for this a long time ago, and when the mailing list wouldn't let me you sent me a link to a special signup page or something, but if I remember correctly and according to my last post, that was over 3 months ago, and I still haven't gotten anything, even though I eventually managed to get the list to work a day after I signed up for the special. I don't shill for a product in my personal life very often (IRL, yo), but I've been showing this to quite a few people and they're totally losing it, especially Dell dudes who are about ready to switch to mac because of how dissatisfied they are with the windows interface.
Still have yet to actually use Bumptop though!
Is there version that will run natively in Leopard?
Again, this is awesome and I can't wait to see it.

Oh no, don't do that! You're saying "hold onto your windows machine, because some day Duke Nukem Forever will be released and you'll wanna play it on Windows!" - There's no guarantee this will ever be mature. Don't prevent a conversion for "waiting" for something that will make windows 'bearable'

I go to a high school where we are issued Tablet PCs and I think BumpTop would be a great way to use the stylus that we use along with our computers. Would you mind if you enrolled me in the beta for testing on a Tablet PC? (I am running a Toshiba Tecra M-4, Windows Vista Ultimate, 32 Bit)

Thanks for yoru kind words. Mac is in development. Minimum requirement is mainly based on the video card. Most computeres within the last 5 years should be able to run it. Older integrated video is a prob, but ATI/nVidia anything should be fine.
