beta testing Bumptop. I was skeptical at first, but am quickly falling in love with it. This is a great piece of software!
I have this question, too!
Tell me when someone answers.

Inappropriate? Thanks CTO! So glad you're liking it.
-
Inappropriate?how the crap do you test it?

The earlier you signed up, the sooner you'll get your invite. Unfortunately its tough to give exact dates but we are opening up as fast as we can while maintaining and improving user experience. Thanks for your patience and support! -
Inappropriate? This experience is beautiful in it's entirety!

I agree! -
Inappropriate? Thanks so much!! That really means a lot to us!
Keep the feedback coming, we'd love to know how you think we can improve.
I’m elated with the rest of the team

Inappropriate? What are the minimum specs to run bumptop? I am on a Dell XT tablet (with multi-touch screen) with 1.2ghz Core2Duo and 3GB ram (ATI x1250 integrated video) and bumptop is PAINFULLY slow, even with everything turned off.
I’m sad.

Inappropriate?Hi Will,
We've tested on the Dell XT with quite good performance, the touch with BumpTop is really impressive actually. A few q's:
-Do you get an OpenGL/driver error message when you start BumpTop?
-Push F1 while in BumpTop, what does the second line read?
-Push F3 in BumpTop and continuously move an icon around, what Frames per Second are you seeing?
-Are you running off battery? If the power settings step down the CPU performance can be really bad in all apps, including BumpTop.
Thanks,
anand -
Since applying about 50 windows updates (vista) and resolving a couple other system issues (explorer codec crash issue) I've tested bumptop and it runs much better now, though the touch interface is still pretty glitchy. Also, with Vista it seems sort of confusing to use Bumptop AND have flicks enabled. I love my flicks and don't know of a way to disable them within just one folder (desktop). If Bumptop could somehow work with flicks would be great.
All in all, bumptop works but is NOT a fabulous desktop environment for a lightweight machine like the XT, probably due to the crappy integrated video adapter. I wonder if anyone out there with a HP Tx2z has tried bumptop?
It sounds like it has a better graphics adapter than the XT and a much beefier CPU. -
I have been using Bumptop on a HP Tx1499 and it runs very well, Considering the Integrated GPU. -
BumpTop does play nice with Flicks and they shouldn't need to be disabled, what problems are you having with them? -
Inappropriate?FWIW on my Sony Vaio SZ390 (Centrino Duo, nVidia graphics, Win7) it runs like a charm
I’m happy
-
Inappropriate?just installed it. First impression is good and I'm starting to like it :)
Although, is it my problem or icons look a bit blurry?
I’m excited
-
Can you send a screenshot? your icons shouldn't be blurry -
Oh, never mind. I't was my fault and the icons look good :) -
Inappropriate? So this is where I can vent my enthusiasm for BumpTop :) Having come across it on the web quite a while ago and been really impressed by the concept, I was wondering only a few weeks ago what had happened to it. I can't believe I missed the invitation in my Inbox for a month!! Glad I went back and saw it, it is fantastic to be able to get my hands on it :) A truly refreshing experience. Interesting that my wife (a computer user but not techie) took one look at our home machine and demanded the standard desktop back ;) This might point to the target user base being more technically inclined, though it could be just a familiarity thing, particularly with careful selection of a theme.
Excellent idea, chaps, I look forward to contributing more and keep up the good work :)

Inappropriate? It looks amazing. But my icons don't look like tiles like they do on the TED movie. They have some shadow but the icon itself is transparent, so that gives a kind of a bugged shadow :O

I got all visual effects enabled. My Laptop is fast enough to run Bumptop very smoothly and has a Nvidia 8400GM
I’m confused.

Don't forget that the TED video was a prototype and will never be an 'official reference' per se, of Bumptop's current capabilities. The tiles in the original TED video no longer exist, in a sense, the prototype was pushing the limits and seeing what could be achieved, while it was also used to demo Bumptop's capabilities, it was not an official demonstration of the current features and effects/looks of the newest beta release of Bumptop. Hope I made sense there, but the final word from the Bumptop team is that the official video is not an official demonstration of -exactly- what Bumptop looks like and how it works. It does demo key features, such as piles and fanning/flipping through them, tossing icons around, lasso, etc, but the details and 'neat' parts of the video, such as your icon shadows not matching the TED vid, is because it has been redesigned since then. While the tiles really shouldn't be having such an odd looking 'ghost' shadow, don't use the TED video as an example because that video used a prototype pavement version of Bumptop that Anand made (From what I understand), and is now obsolete. -
Hope I didn't come off as snobby or rude there. ^^; -
You got it totally right, Thanks Azi! -
