Change icon size based on modified/accessed date
By default, files which have been modified or accessed more recently could be dynamically made bigger than older items - this would highlight those documents which the user uses more regularly.

Inappropriate?I like this idea but I think it would be better if it were an option not as default as sometimes you want specific items larger than others.

Inappropriate?Yeah I agree it should be an option rather than the default. Should have mentioned that in my original post...

Inappropriate? It's a good idea though. If it were as an option I could see it would really be useful to have the icons of the desktop more 'dynamic' to your usage towards them. Ones you use more = bigger. Would be helpful and its 'adaptiveness' would really be a real treat from a the standard boring non responsive desktop.
It's a bit like a real desktop. the papers and files you use the least slowly make their way to the bottom of the pile and the stuff you use regularly is always on top and in handy reach.

Inappropriate?you could have icon size represent file size - kinda like a weighted list/search cloud sorta thing. obviously there would be an upper/lower limit to the icon size, and maybe different filetypes are shown relative to each other, eg .mp3s would be compared with other .mp3s, not .txts etc.
also you could represent the age/modified date of a file by showing older files as gradually fading away.
i dont know how useful it would be in practice, but anyway i made a picture..
