We're still working on the specifics of this and will announce something when we can.
There will likely be some form of free and paid versions of BumpTop, as we do need your support to sustain our ability to make this cool piece of software for you, and give you the rapid support you deserve!
I’m thankful

Inappropriate?I think it will not be free. But I dont think it will be a lot of money either. I also think the price of Bumptop will be balanced across the number of features.
I’m happy

I misread that and thought you said "as we do not need your support" and I thought "whaaaa...". -
No way. You guys rock! -
Inappropriate? You should ask the Beta testers how much this experience would be worth in $, considering the current goals.
I’m always optimistic
-
Thanks Jon. We've sent out a few surveys to try and determine a sweet spot. If anybody is following this thread still, we'd love to know what you think is a reasonable price for BumpTop. -
Inappropriate?Well, I don't know if I would pay.
I suppose it depends what the features are and pricing, etc.
I'll wait for the specefics.
I’m hoping it'll be free.
-
Inappropriate?Come on people projects like this are very time consuming and there are people who need to make a living of it, there are many ways to give a free version think of a version who contains some form of advertising, a version thats limited in options to motivate people to pay for the full version or maybe all 3 of them,
And i hope that bumptop get all the funds they need to continue a great support, and develop a masterpiece of software.
That in my humble opinion is much more worth than a free piece of software.
I’m thankful

Inappropriate? But I don't have any money to buy anything... T_T
I guess that means bye-bye bumptop. :(
(Soon)
I’m sad

If things in life weren't seen as goals, We as a race would have accumulated nothing then. -
Hey, like I said there will likely be a free version too, alongside a paid one. We want to touch the broadest audience possible and a free version lets us do that. -
Free version / Paid version things tend to make me run in the opposite direction though... Maybe I should get my shoes ready. XD -
Inappropriate?perhaps...give beta testers free final versions! whahahaha...
-
I like that option! :) -
Count me in :) -

IM IN!!! lets make a petition!! -
Inappropriate?I think Five dollars is a reasonable price, It's not like kids cannot get a hold of a friend with a credit card that works and pay him/her 5$ up straight to buy such a great piece of software, just remember to make a donate-button in one of the menus. Remember that the best things in life is really cheap or free.
Now, now, let's remember that theese are people and they might want a bit more than 5 dollars a pop, I think I'd be williing to pay up to 10 USD, anything above that is too much for me, Today at least as bumptop isn't really a production gain. If there were a donate button somewhere and the program did cost 5-10 $ a pop, I might be bendable to believe that the programmers were good people and donate some money to help them put food into their faces at a later time when such money is present.
I’m thankful

Inappropriate?I'd say around 400 dkk would be my loft for a pro version.

I’m unconcerned

Inappropriate?Sum1Else: Ever hear the expression "You get what you pay for"?
:-)
How did you pay for your computer? How doyou pay for your internet? Come on, let's be reasonable, heh. -
My parents paid... They're not going to pay for bumptop :( -
I starved myself to get my computer, beat that. The thing is, most of my games and software were impulse buys. Except for SPORE and Red Alert 3 but those two doesn't count, anyways one thing that would have me running easily is the borrowing-scheeme of wow and similar MMORPGS, and the antivirus-companies' scheme pay for one year of upgrades. -
Inappropriate?I do want Bumptop to be free, but I totally understand that, as a programmer, it can feel a bit... odd to release something you devote a LOT of time and work to and get little or no reward for it. Now obviously Bumptop will be some sort of commercial product, I wish it wasn't going to be, but if the price is reasonable and if I wanted it bad enough I'd save up to get it.
My suggestion to all of you who are annoyed that it might not be 100% free is to stop whining if you aren't willing to round up money to get it. You don't need to spam the rest of us with your complaints if you aren't willing to at least try and do something to earn the money, be it a job or mowing lawns if that's what works for you.
@ Anand and team,
I suggest that perhaps an incentive (if it does go commercial) to purchase the 'Bump Pro Package' would be lifetime upgrades, perhaps? I love Bumptop, but I would be greatly disappointed if I say bought it and then had to purchase an upgrade for it. :(
Great work though, Bumptop is an amazing piece of software, and it's increased my productivity a hundredfold, no joke or exaggeration, either.
I’m still hoping to see Crumple soon, since there's over 299 votes to bring it back. ;)
-
Inappropriate?I would have to agree. Any good game I want I have to pay for. Any good Office / Productivity soft I have to pay for. It would only make sense that Bumptop be sold the same. I don't know if I would look for it on the game isle or the Office soft isle. Hehe.
-
Inappropriate?Well I agree with the point mentioned earlier about giving the final version for free to beta testers. As a beta tester myself I would estimate a price of about 20 to 40 US dollars. This way, BumpTop can be almost as expensive as regular software yet cheaper by a bit. Also, current BumpTop users would not stop using BumpTop. I suggest BumpTop finds a better way to prevent illegal copies from being made. I'm saying this because I've seen a few hints of cracked versions of BumpTop.

Inappropriate? How about a free version with some advertisements on the wall?
-
Inappropriate?Absolutely not... the thing i hate the most about tutorials is when they put ads all over their products <_><. I would rather just get a trial with limited time.
-
Inappropriate?Ew. No ads. One, that would be annoying because it takes up your desktop space. Even trials of Windows don't have ads on your desktop.
Two, having extra objects scattered around that you cant get rid of only makes more work for the processor, depending on your icon volume.
Three, the best thing to do would be to make a 'Bumptop Basic' and 'Pro' where Pro has all the features, and Bumptop Basic is a feature-limited indefinite trial.
Some ideas for limiting features, maybe only allow two photo frames, only one or two widgets, even setting a cap on the amount of photos that can be shown as thumbnail icons that are on the desktop. Basic can't use the web shortcut thumbnails, and perhaps even (though i hate to say it) limits on theme capabilities for the free version. -
NO!!! -
Inappropriate? When I came up with the ad-widget idea I had already assumed that Bumptop was going to release two or more versions. 1) A free version- maybe feature limited. 2) Paid and Bundled editions - with widgets and features.
But this doesn't satisfy the masses. People are still going to want ALL the features for FREE. and They will for the most part seek that out. So as me doing my part to help fight against piracy of Bumptop. I came up with the widget. This way they could release a Free - limited version, A pro- full version and an ad-supported - full version.
It was an attempt to please the masses, I wasn't trying to offend anyone.
I don't know if I am going to finish it though, We will have to see what happens.
I’m a silly billy
