New weather widget - Not too pretty, but actually works! (work in progress)
I have made a fully functional Weather Widget.
Its not super pretty, because I'm still working on it.
It creates, and automatically updates (every 10 minutes) an uncompressed PNG of the weather on the desktop,

Known issues:

For some reason, If run from the desktop, It will always register internet as disconnected. I have absolutley no idea why. (running from a desktop shortcut, however, will not cause this)

I'm so glad it worked, I was a little worried for a while lol. -
Inappropriate?I was going to give you props for creating your own widget, but when I run it, all I get is a blank image for the weather. Also, it is being dropped to the desktop so if many people create widgets like this, the desktop will soon be so cluttered with images for the widgets that you won't be able to use it effectively without BumpTop running.
I do like to see the community creating widgets, but this one doesn't work and even if it did work, it is poorly executed.

I'm sorry it didn't work for you. What do you mean itll be cluttered? even if we didnt use images it's have the same effect. I don't understand. and as for it not working, I'm sorry. Note the word "ghetto" in the title. This is just the beginning, Think of it as an aloha test. I'm not even close to being totally done.

Inappropriate?Hey, I was playing around with your widget's config file, and I realized that it used google's standard weather, which isn't exactly the prettiest weather display available. I edited it to use Yahoo's weather, which is one of the prettier browser weather displays I've seen, and it looks like this:

I think, given the the widget as it is right now, using Yahoo or another prettier browser weather display would make it a lot more attractive on bumptop.
For a final version of a weather widget though, personally I'd like to see either a vista side bar gadget style weather display, where you can see the pretty weather graphic, say through a window, with the current temperature overlayed on it, or on the other hand, I'd like to see a thermometer, kind of like how weatherbug does it, except prettier.1 Comment Add a comment

That is an awesome idea. I didnt even think of that. My next release will DEFINITELY have options to switch between google weather, yahoo weather, etc. Thanks so much for the idea man.

It's called an external widget.
Support is built in to bumptop for these widgets. -

It seems like a ton of extra work for no extra functionality, but ill work on it. I can make it close as soon as bumptop does with 2 lines of code.

Look in Documents and Settings\Yourname\... on XP
You will have to make a directory there and trail it with .widget

Inappropriate?The advantages are that you are not actually dumping anything to the desktop so with multiple widgets running the desktop won't get cluttered. Also, you can set it up so that you can double-click an "icon" image within BumpTop to bring up the settings dialog and you won't need anything in the system tray. You can set up multiple icons this way. For instance, you have a mail client that drops e-mails to the desktop then you can double click the mail which has a run-time parameter that tells the app what icon was double-clicked on so that you can bring up that email in a window with options like reply, forward, etc. Doing it this way also allows BumpTop to clean up and close out the application when BumpTop closes and also open the application when BumpTop starts.
