Hey,
I think the probs you guys are experiencing are due to how Microsoft changed the icon API in Vista. None of these exist in XP, and we are working on updating some of these integration points for Vista in the upcoming releases.
We are overriding system icons because XP stores really low-res icons for their system icons and look bad when they are enlarged to BumpTop-size. You can change this overide if you set overrideOSIcons to 0 in the settings.
Re: icons disappearing once they are pilied, the piles shouldn't have anything to do with the icon state, this could be just a side effect of the main icon bug. So keep on pililn'!

Inappropriate?I'm having trouble reproducing that one. Just to be sure, does restarting BumpTop yet another time fix the issue?
Also, are you using vista? -
Inappropriate?Restarting does not work, and I'm using vista.
-
Inappropriate? If you create new .swf, .avi's etc on your BumpTop do they appear with the right icons? Or the same incorrect white ones?
Are any of your other icons screwed up? If possible to send a full screenshot that would be great. feedback@bumptop.com for your privacy. -

I don't really have anything that private on my desktop. -
Inappropriate?I am annoyed that the folders dont show any icons.. would be great if it did.

Inappropriate?YoungScripter: Do you mean you don't see the folder icons, or that you want to see the icons on items inside the folders?
Sum1Else: We've filed a bug report for this, thanks for alerting us of the issue. -
I mean a custom icon I specified on a folder. -
Inappropriate?YoungScripter: You can disable override OS icons (setting) to get folder icons to show up.
However i disabled it and my flv icon still isn't showing up.
Actually, i just broke the pile, and made it again, and it works now!!! ... No it doesn't.
I’m confused
-
Oh yeah thanks, I found this setting. let my try it, thanks. -
Inappropriate? If you have the same problem as me, try this and post about your success (or failure)
set overrideOSIcons to 0
set useThumbsDb to 0
restart bumptop TWICE.
I’m happy

Inappropriate?I have had some flash files on bumptop, and I can just see the icon of it, no problems at all.
-
Inappropriate?I think I sort of fixed it using the method I described above. It's a bit of a hassle though, since when Bumptop started on startup, I had to close it and start it again.
This may still have something to do with stacks, because stacks seem to still dislike icons for me. (The flv suddenly disappeared again when I put it into a stack, and now its working again because I break it)
I’m thankful

Inappropriate? When skype is in a pile (while bumptop loads), it doesn't like to have its icon show up (I'm getting the big black loading icon square)
I’m confused
-
the black square is our default loading texture. :) -
My problem here is that it didn't load. :) -
Inappropriate?Actually... I think the best solution for this problem right now is the changes I suggested above, and to not have stacks.
-
Inappropriate?I have a new problem now. Some items don't show up at all (especially if they already exist and i've just saved it. Happens occasionally as word is starting up.)
-
Inappropriate?Is bumptop caching icons?
Can we stop this?
Why can't bumptop just use the icons it finds on the desktop? It would make things so much easier for the user...
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate? Please include something along the lines of "Icon problems fixed" on the changelog of the version where you have fixed it. :D
Oh and a few more random problems...
http://a.surrealness.org/jing/v/2008-... << Desktop
http://a.surrealness.org/jing/v/2008-... << Bumptop
Is it loading that icon from the exe file it shortcuts to? I'd prefer using the shortcut's icon. A few more google gears apps and ill have a unorganized pile of firefoxes at the corner of my bumptop... and that'll get confusing.
And I wish we could drag icons into shortcuts that linked to exe files. (Why not just enable it for all shortcuts?) It'd be even better if you would allow whatever windows allows... since I would like to be able to drag icons onto autohotkey scripts again.
Since this would interfere a bit with tossing things around... maybe have it only work if some modifier button was held down? (Unless its a pile)
It's not that important though. Just something that would be very, very, very, very useful for me.
I’m still confused

Good ideas! We'll see what we can do.
Re: the duplicate icons thing, we're looking into it. I suspect its related to the other icon issues. -
Inappropriate?Oh, and regarding the second paragraph regarding the exe... this is what my steam games folder looks like: http://a.surrealness.org/jing/v/2008-...
It's a bit hard trying to figure out which is which. -
can you send a screenshot of what they look like in a vista folder for comparison? thx. -
http://a.surrealness.org/jing/v/2008-...
I have to admit that not all of them have icons, but a good number of them do. Just in case you were wondering, Steam games are launched by calling the same executable (steam.exe) with a different parameter for all of them. So bumptop using the same icon for everything may be due to it pulling the icon from steam.exe, not the icon assigned to the shortcut. -
