Save/Name Piles without altering file structure
I'm a writer and I have one very structured, very ordered folder of story ideas, which I would love to be able to sort by theme/genre etc without actually moving the files into different folders. However, if I name a pile, it creates a folder for it and moves the contents of that pile into a folder. But the option 'Folderize' also does this - couldn't saved / named piles simply store the data some other way, such as in an ini file for each folder?

Inappropriate?Actually, this is making me more irritated as time goes on, so I'm changing my feeling to 'frustrated'
Again, to clarify - 'Name Pile' and 'Folderize' should be 2 separate, different functions. 'Name Pile' should attach a Name / Label to the pile without altering file structure, and 'Folderize' should create a new folder for the pile (and obviously require a name at that point.
Originally I can understand that there was no need for a difference between these functions, but there are scenarios in which both are needed. If i'm using bumptop to sort a bunch of files, I may want to create new subfolders for those files. Say for instance I'm sorting images into albums on the disk
However, on the desktop I might want to group my icons into named piles, but leave them out of folders because some other application (RocketDock) needs to be able to access them aswell!

Inappropriate?I came across a related issue when I tried to create a pile from a file [payment.aspx.htm] and a folder, except when I entered a name for my pile I got a popup saying Error Moving File or Folder [Cannot move file: Cannot read from the source file or disk.] The pile ends up getting named (and a folder is created), but I can no longer scroll through the items like I can with my other named piles. When I try to do this, the red X appears next to my pile but I still only see the top item. Double clicking on the pile shows the .htm file as expected on top of the dark rectangular background, but the folder in the pile appears in a small circle at the top right corner.
I tried this with the same folder and a different .htm file and didn't come across the same problems, but when I named the pile it somehow caused the original payment.aspx.htm file to disappear. It only reappeared when I broke the pile.
I would definitely like to see "Name Pile" only used internally to Bump Top and leaving the original folder structure intact.
I’m confused

Inappropriate?@rory ok: This is the exact reason why I don't use the "name pile" functionality
I’m straight faced

Inappropriate?@little blue: I'm going to bet that you downloaded a webpage as "complete page." This creates a folder called payment_aspx_htm_files (or something such). This folder contains all of the objects referenced in that .htm file (images, css, javascript files). You recognized this and put the file and folder into a pile to reduce clutter on your desktop. What you may not realize is that Windows moves the folder whenever you move the .htm file.
Bumptop tried to move this folder into a folder only to discover that Windows had already moved it! The further confusion was likely caused by a disconnect between what bumptop thinks is there and what Windows says is there.
But that's just one man's opinion.

Inappropriate? This is a complication for me too.
I NEED to backup my data, which I use Dropbox for. Since BumpTop is designed to hold photos and documents, I need things things to be backed up.
I have set my desktop as my dropbox folder so everything that happens on my desktop is backed up to Dropbox.
This works fine for the most part, but I would love to be able to keep my super organized folder structures (so I can use the dropbox folder on macs and other computers that don't have BumpTop) while also using BumpTop's stacks on my desktop. There should be a way to just dump all files within a folder AND its subfolders onto your BumpTop so you can organize them there, but without changing the underlying folder structure.
As it is now, I have to carefully makes piles of folders and name piles well so my Dropbox folder is readable on my Mac, and not a huge mess of files.
