Show Running Application Windows on Desktop
Rocketdock can minimize windows to the dock, and miniMize can turn active windows into thumbnails. I would love to see this feature in Bumptop. The idea of being able to sort my active application windows into piles and interact with them the way bumptop does (break, pile, flip, fan, grid etc) would be so much better than vista flip 3d and mac expose combined!

Inappropriate? Here's a screenshot of what I'm talking about. Notice to the left I have a pile of apps with gmail on top, and on the backwall I have pinned P

how did you get the window thumbnails into bumptop? -
Hi Jufa, its just a photoshop job, they're not really in there. but I'd love if they could be. -
haha you totally fooled me -
photoshop job? you couldve just made screenshots of the windows and put them on the desktop, and bumtop wouldve automatically made thumbnails... but ok! -
Inappropriate?Glad to tell you you are not alone.
I think what we would like is to create surfaces, like the photoframe and make them run active windows. -
Inappropriate?well even simple thumbnails like miniMize creates would be fine for me.
-
Inappropriate?I'm definitely all for this. Maybe it could minimize into like a small window (kind of like windows aero flip thing that shows the program running in real time) but directly on the desktop.

Inappropriate? That's the first thing I thought when I got this today, since it doesn't run well when combined with an objectdock. Having a taskbar really ruins the feel for the desktop idea.
-
Inappropriate? This is an awesome idea. It was one of the things that I thought immediately after I started the program.

Inappropriate? It is a bit old but I made this widget already:
http://electrikjesus.spaces.live.com/...!5767D60F814901D6!372.entry
it will be out soon. and should be available for Bumptop Pro running on XP or Vista.
Hope you like!! -
Inappropriate? It has changed a bit now but here is a preview of what you are all talking about:
http://electrikjesus.spaces.live.com/...!5767D60F814901D6!372.entry
It is a widget for Bumptop Pro running on XP or Vista and will be released when Bumptop is.
Hope you like it. -
Thats brilliant Jon, Make sure to make a post when its released.. -
it is titled "Bump to Panes", and can be seen from the front page if http://electrikjesus.spaces.live.com -
Inappropriate?Hi, this is the idea of a "real desk" where we can work with all aplications, notes, icons, files, at the same time. Hope this feature be in the beta 18. :)
I’m excited

Inappropriate?I have been thinking about this whole desktop approach. How much can it be pushed? How far I mean. If there are the apps in little icons, would it be possible to drop things on them? or is there any point in makeing it possible? Or another: if we have a folder structure which we use to organize things, how can it be incorporated into this (otherwise very inspiring) real world ddesktop aproach?
Just to open some new issues relating to the original suggestion -
Inappropriate?@Tamas
There's a lot of thinks about desks that Bumptop doesn't use at the moment. I wonder if maybe we can somehow add drawers to the walls in the future that we can assign to contain the contents of certain folders?
And in Windows, if I dropped a, say, note file called 'spanishnotes.txt' onto a shortcut to Word, it would open that note file in Word, same goes if I dropped said note file onto an open Word window, so I'd think Bumptop could interface with the Windows functionality that makes those actions possible.
I wouldn't mind just dropping, say, a shortcut on my desktop onto a Firefox window thats been minimized into bumptop, so that it can just pop up the window in that window.
It's a good idea, but I don't think it's critical yet. ;)
Bumptop has lots of potential, that means lots of ideas! -
Inappropriate?I agree that just thumbnails of navigators and text editors like droped icons on the desktop, sounds like "no use", but the real deal is that this little droped windows are functional, where we can deal with maore than a aplication at same time.
The idea of the drawers is a good idea too. -
Inappropriate?I remember this being a feature in the orginal demo video, way back when, I was actually a little surprised it got cut out. Though I've done app development before and understand that things can slip through the cracks sometimes.
I’m wanting this to be implemented.
-
The original video was actually of Anand's prototype for his Master's thesis -- so there wasn't actually any integration between BumpTop and the file/window system. The interfaces that Microsoft provides (especially in XP) aren't too nice, but there are also some people (Jon) trying to write plugins to do this. -
Inappropriate? My ideal desktop would have items solidly pinned to the walls (programs, clock, calendar, pictures, sticky notes, etc.) as well as a bookshelf for frequently accessed folders and files. My floor would be used for active windows and current files.
This would be an intuitive layout, and I would finally feel like my computer was working for me!
I’m encouraged!
-
Inappropriate?I really like this idea, uncle sparky has good plot idea. Floor with active items, Shelves for useful items, and pin up for more frequently used items.
-
Inappropriate? This was the first idea that sprang to my mind when i installed bumptop. currently, application windows look so out of place with all their normal Windows properties.

Inappropriate?Hello all, I have a solution to this need Here: http://widgets.indakind.com
Currently I am still populating the site as well as fixing up the trial version of Bump 2 Panes. so it will be available in a couple of days.
It is a widget for Bumptop that will drop any minimized window right to Bumptop in either a pile or right to the desk area.
Hope to see you all. -

Yeah, We are still working out some of the kinks. just refresh until it loads up. -
We have fixed the widgets and are working on a new site for the widgets. This one will work far better.
Thank You. -
Inappropriate?site seems to be working here?
will try it out ^.^ -
Inappropriate?a TON of people have already suggested this dude. including me.
-
Soo? Should we forget about because? -
no, im just saying, its a very common idea.
