Inappropriate?Hi there,
We've identified a problem with TexHelper with Windows XP and some icons on the desktop.
We are in the process of testing a fix and will be releasing an update to address this problem in the next few days.
Thanks for your patience!

Inappropriate?Hi , i have the same issue with bumptop which force me to uninstall immediately , i like the concept very much but not the annoying pop up.
Michael Lam -
Inappropriate?Every 10 second's windows XP Pro SP3 asks me to
send an error report for a application error.
One of many!
Fauling Application, Texhelper.exe version 0.0.0.0 faulting module devil.dll
version 0.1.7.8 fault adress 0x000038ed.
One of many!
Dr.Watson
The application C:\program files\bumtop\texhelper.exe
generated an application error. the error occurred on
4/9/2009 @ 19:32:55:468
The exception generated was c000001d at adress 10003f0b (devIL)
Has my PC been possessed by the DEVIL?
All of the folder's I created show up as black Icons in bumtop. The folders were created before bumtop was installed and there is no text to say what they are.
I have to uninstall bumtop the error filled my event viewer right from the very first start of bumptop. To bad I wanted to use this program it's a great concept!
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate? If you are experiencing this problem, please email us at feedback@bumptop.com noting this in the subject, and attach ANY DMP files (or Dr.Watson files) Windows generates. We have an inhouse fix - we will be contacting everyone soon with a patch - and we need your help to confirm that the problem is fixed before we do a wide refresh.
-
Inappropriate?i also have this error and when i went to send the feedback email, the dmp file was non existant. i did send an email saying so, so maybe they will have an idea in the near future. gonna try and go get a dr watson file for this.
I’m disappointed and sad-i wanted this!
-
Inappropriate? We'd love to receive crash reports about this problem.
Please see this thread on how to get the dump files:
http://getsatisfaction.com/bumptop/to... -
Inappropriate?ok, here is my weird problem. there is no such file as application data, dr watson, dmp, or anything for me to find to show you!!! apparently, my comp feels no need to generate any error file reports!
-
Hi Angela,
The Application Data folder is usually hidden. You'll have to enable the viewing of hidden folders (Tools (using ALT+T), Folder Options, View tab, then "Show hidden files, folders...") OR manually type in the path in the address bar by adding "Application Data" to the end of the folder path. -
Inappropriate?ok, sent a dr watson dmp file. weirdly enough, there is no section for bumptop in user files ANYWHERE!!
thanks, justin!
I’m confuzzled!
-
Excellent. Winson and I will try to take a look at the DMP tomorrow, and we'd love it if you could respond to any emails we send... we need help testing fixes to ensure they fix the bugs. -
Inappropriate?I sent, what I thought was the dump file last weekend, but have not heard anything except the auto reply message. I might have not done it right so am in the process of following Justin's instructions to provide a new Dump file.
I am very anxious to see this program work like it should and would like to help out as much as possible.
I’m anxious
-
Inappropriate?Just sent the latest Dr. Watson Data that was gathered, before and after an update to BumpTop. I had the original 1.0 version that I downloaded from CNet and as I was gathering the information for the Dump, I was notified of a new version of BumpTop. Installed and updated the file, along with uninstalling version 1.0.
Started new updated version and continue to get the Texhelp.exe errors. I let Dr. Watson continue to record the data and I attached all the files that were generated and sent them in.
Hope this helps...
I’m sad
-
Thanks Michael - we should get back to you today... -
Inappropriate?I downloaded the Newest fix this morning, and still getting texhelper.exe errors. I am using Windows XP..
Love the program! makes my desktop sooooo organized...
HELP
I’m Sad I cannot use the program with all the errors
-
Hey,
Can you remove all the icons from your desktop, and add files back on and see if you can identify which file is causing this? -
Inappropriate?Ok. I deleted everything. Then it stopped for about 15 minutes then I went to go change Themes and getting the same error
I’m cranky

-
Inappropriate?me too...it's not just an icon or two, it seems to be anything related to graphics. also, my frames on the wall do not work. by this i mean the flikr frame, the one to the right, the sticky notes, and the facebook, twitter, and email icons are all super dark grey and the flikr and other open to the right of flikr (having a blank moment, sorry) are just lines...not even rectangles.
I’m bunnin'

-
Inappropriate?I did the same thing as Northernbc and Angela did and got the same results as they did.
I deleted all the Icons on the Desktop, except the Flikr, My Computer, New Email, Facebook, Twitter, and the Trashcan. (I tried to delete those but BumpTop wouldn't let me).
The Errors continued to pop up about every 15 to 20 seconds, with nothing on the desktop and all the other Icons BLACK except the Trashcan.
Quick question for those having this problem. What kind of video card do you have? I personally have the Nvidia 6500 with the latest drivers from Nvidia loaded. Don't know if that has anything to do with it but as Angela mentioned in her post "It seems to be anything related to graphics".
Next?
I’m frustrated

-
Inappropriate? My Video card is a Nvidia GetForce 2 Pro
and I run at 1280 x1024 there is no way I am going to a lesser Resolution setting ... to run Bumptop...
Yes, every 15 seconds ... I delete everything except for what it won't let me delete, and it stopped for a bit.
Then soon as I changed the Theme I was back to square one.
I’m frustrated and waiting for an answer
-
And I have Direct x 9.0 and better and Windows Service Pack 3 .... -
Inappropriate? We've narrowed down the problem to our graphics library which is having trouble compressing images on SOME XP machines.
We're going to add the ability to disable this graphics compression library (optionally) on systems that encounter this problem, so that you can all use BumpTop properly.
Basically, you'll probably see the error once - and once BumpTop detects the problem, it will automatically disable this compression library in the future. (This graphics library gives better quality thumbnails.)
I'll be emailing people directly with an updated build in the next 30 minutes or so - so if you haven't contacted us already, fire me an email at feedback@bumptop.com and I'll send the build your way.
We'd LOVE to get more feedback about this - so we'd really appreciate it if you could try this new build out so we can include it in our update coming Thursday/Friday. -
Inappropriate?it sounds good.
-
Just uploading the installer now to our webserver... =) -
Inappropriate?I have just sent out links to (hopefully) all the users who emailed us at feedback@bumptop.com about this issue. We'd appreciate it if you could download the updated VIP build and let us know in this thread if the new version allows you to run BumpTop without the constant error messages.
If you did not receive an email and wish to help us test, please email me at feedback@bumptop.com in the next 24 hours.
If this 24 hour window has passed by the time you read this: Once we've confirmed that this fix is working for people, we will be making this patch publically available. =) -
Inappropriate?I downloaded the new install and it fixed the Texhelper crash. However, now when I stack files they are too clear and are nearly invisible, even when you grid the pile.
-
Inappropriate?Vicente,
Very cool (that it fixed the crash). Yes, there are some undesired visual glitches that we're still looking at.
Thanks for letting us know! =) -
Inappropriate?Running the build you send to me.
No more crashing seen here with TextHelper.
Should I noticed any glitches I will report back here :-)
Happy Bug hunting!
-
Inappropriate?Oops! Forgot to turn off anti-aliasing with the new install (older video card). That fixed the invisible icon problem.
Thanks for all your help! -
Inappropriate?Have sent in a couple of Dr Watson Dumps but have not seen anything from you all about the fix for this problem. Have sent in an email to feedback@bumptop.com but still nothing in the email except the auto reply. Anxious to see if this work for my system also.
-
Michael,
Sorry - missed your email. Sending you an email now. Let me know if you haven't received it. -
Inappropriate? Thanks Justin, just got the email and in the process of downloading and installing the new version. Will uninstall the old verison first, of course.
Again thanks for the help. Will let you all know how it goes...
I’m excited

Inappropriate?Hi,
Been sent a link to build 2839 and there is now no longer the "TexHelper.exe" error messages popping up every few seconds.
Also the "picture frames" are working and retaining the path settings able to get to the settings etc
Will install on the works PC and run it over Friday and see what happens...
Looking good :-)
I’m confident
-
Inappropriate?Welp, so far so good. I didn't even get the initial Texhelp.exe error message after installation. Plus all my Icons are there, the program/desktop icons.
The only ones that are blacked out are "My Computer", New Mail, Facebook, Twitter, and any Folder icon that is on my desktop. All the rest of the Icon's are perfect. In fact will add a screen shot.
This is the first time all the normal icons have shown up, with the exception of those mentioned above.
And as I said with this build, I did not get the texhelp.exe error when BumpTop started, like I was expecting as Justin had mentioned that it might come up and disable the compression library, but not for sure why it didn't come up on startup.
Anyway looking forward to start testing it now and put it throgh some tests.
I’m Very Happy
-
Inappropriate? The new build (2839) seems to be working perfectly. Thanks!
-
Inappropriate?Everything is working great on my system, also. I have played around with Twitter, email, and all the icons and so far no problems.
Great Job...
I’m happy
-
Inappropriate?I just purchased Pro and have this error message every few minutes. Is there going to be a publicly available update ?
I’m null
-
Hi there,
So sorry for all the troubles.
The update is being released in the next 2 days - we're just trying to do some more testing before making it generally available. Feel free to email us at feedback@bumptop.com to get the VIP build sooner. =) -
Inappropriate?SO FAR THIS SEEMS TO BE GOING WELL WITH THE exception of the few icons that stay black...is there a reason for this? also, are email, facebook, and twitter supposed to stay blank or not?
-
The icons are NOT supposed to be black - but we haven't figured out what the problem is yet. Our immediate concern is to fix the crashes and other high priority problems - but rest assured we are aware of this problem, and that we will be fixing this problem in the next few updates. -
I "think" I "fixed" that by going to settings and switching themes (clikcing aply) and back.. -
Rob, There's a message from the company about VIP Registration and this problem. Basically send an EMail to feedback@bumptop.com and add the "VIP Tester" tp the subject. That will get you this latest build to help with these Texhelp.exe errors. -
Inappropriate? With 2839, the texhelper crash has stopped, but as reported by "angela lowry", I am (still) also getting some black icons.
-
Inappropriate?Just done the auto update to 2850 and that seems to have solved the black icons and the error from a few releases earlier.
Twitter, Facebook, the picture box etc all work well.
I’m confident
-
Inappropriate?I've just updated to 2850 but somehow it made things worse. Before update, only the facebook and stickynotes icon were black. Now half of my desktop icons plus the facebook and stickynote icon are black.
I’m indifferent
-
Inappropriate?I went to the settings and on the first tab there was a seleciton at the bottom saying something about an infinite Bumptop. Clicked that and all my icons showed back up. Turned it off and they stayed there.
So now messing around with the settings to see if I can make it do it again. Here's the image:
I’m Happy now
-
It seems like you are running Vista, verses me running XP. I've tried your method with no results, but thanks for helping anyway. -
Jimmy, I am running XP with SP3. I can't and won't run Vista, mainly as I have a lower end machine.
What I ended up doing was changing the Graphics Card Texture to HIGH vs Medium, like I mentioned below.
Maybe that will help you also... -
Inappropriate?I take that back, it wasn't the infinite bumptop, but the graphics card section of the Visuals Tab. Have been changing those settings and have all three checked and is working perfectly now.
Will continue to see if I can get it to work all the time now... -
Inappropriate?I installed ver 2850 today. Got a Windows general protection fault but install went OK otherwise. System has slowed a lot.
-
Hi Aussie, were you getting TexHelper crashes before the install? -
Inappropriate?Justin
Yes, I did have TexHelper error messages - have not seen them as yet so that issue appears to be resolved - thanks. -
Thanks for your response - really appreciate your help.
I'm trying to determine if the performance problem is related to TexHelper; now that TexHelper is doing its job and generating thumbnails, you're going to see lower framerates since BumpTop is rendering more now.
You're running XP... what service pack? What graphics card do you have? (Hit F1 and it'll show at the bottom.) If you drag an icon around on the desktop, what kind of framerate do you see? (Hit F3 to display this information.) -
Inappropriate? Can we get a email that the Final build is complete. I deleted the Bumptop from my computer until a final build can be determined.
I checked the website and it is still the 2735 build. When are you ready to Officially upload the Newest build?
I’m Waiting patiently in the sidelines
-
Hi there,
We're pushing out updates every week or two. Today's update was build 2850 which has been made available. If you have BumpTop running, it will automatically update to this build. -
Inappropriate?Hi Justin
I am running BT on two machines. One is a T60 with an Intel945GM, the other has a high end ATI card with 512mb. FPS on the T60 is around 110 when dragging an icon -
Inappropriate?Oh and service pack 2 with XP Pro on the T60 and Vista Ultimate on the Asus
-
Inappropriate?FX5700LE/agp/sse/3Dnow (256meg, Driver ver 6.14.11.7519, dated 16/5/2008)
FPS = 3 -> 59 (slows down for a second when the picture frame loads a new image but the picture size is large so ...)
Windows : XP with SP3 (recently reimaged)
CPU : AMD 2400+
RAM :1.5gb
BT Mem Usage = 108,812k
Infinate desktop seems to work well
I’m happy
-
Inappropriate?so am i the only one who still has black icons? i am running xp pro sp 2 with a radeon 700 series vid card with the newest driver.
frames per second 14
average fps: 4
max average: 20
vid memory usage: 0
bump objects 18
actors: 15
piles: 0
render reason interactive
I’m hopeful....
-
Angela, see if this helps...
Go to settings and the Visuals Tab.
Under Graphics Card there is a Slider Bar for the TEXTURE. Put that to High, as I believe that is normally set to Medium Quality. Then Restart BumpTop.
Doing this fixed my Black Icon problems.
Hope this helps... -
Inappropriate?I set it to HIgh Quality with the Geforce Pro graphics card.
Restarted the Bumptop and Walllaaaaa Facebook Icons, and Twitter Icons appeared.!
Looks like all the problems are fixed. Excellent program, !
I will be purchasing in the near future
I’m Extremely happy! Thank you for the excellent Program!!!!
-
Inappropriate? So has this new build been released to the masses yet? At C-Net?
Or are you still working out the bug?
I don't want to be a VIP tester.
Mainly because I was getting the error so fast I could not gain control over my PC! As I said before it filled my event viewer In a matter of minutes.
I had to exit bumptop and uninstall the program.
My build (It's old but should run BumpTop)
Windows xp pro SP3
ASUS A7N8X Deluxe
AMD Athlon XP 3200+ 2.2
1GB Kingston HyperX (2x512) dual channel
eVGA 7800 GS AGP
80GB Maxtor HD (70% Free)
Creative Audigy Platnium 5.1
Looking Forward to a reply.
I’m undecided
-
Inappropriate?i love you, michael! i set it to high and they all work EXCEPT the custom icons i made are just files. however, i can live with that...at least for now! thank you!!!
I’m playing on my bumptop with joy!
-
Inappropriate?I got still the TexHelper crash with build 2861, tried to get a .dmp file, but nothing new was added after the crash
also i have no black/invisible images
I’m confused
-
Hi Gero,
So you still see lots of TexHelper crash windows, but your BumpTop icons show perfectly? Can I get a screenshot? -
Inappropriate?ok
that's strange
i changed the photo cycle from 15 sec to 120 sec and let it run for 2 1/2 hour
at old settings there should be 2 or 3 of the errormessages i send you
but now there was nothing
could it be a problem with a full "...\cache\images\1\thumbnail" folder?
ps: i used an other mail address to send you the error message ...
edit 1 min later: now i got this error message again
I’m still confused
-
Hi Gero,
Thanks for your help. Our original update was for the widespread XP TexHelper problem.
As what you're reporting is more isolated, I will take a look at your email crash report early next week, so we can see if any fixes can be made for a patch next week. -
Inappropriate?Well, finally figured out the memory error I got from TexHelper (different error message to the known one). I turned off the image viewer and have not had a problem since.
-
Hi Aussie,
Glad things are working. Could you clarify what you did though? What image viewer did you turn off? -
Hi Justin,
I turned off Photo frames. Bumptop is still slowing my system but a lot better than it was.
Regards
