Ultimate Question: Is it significantly useful?
Will BumpTop really help people be more productive or have a better understanding of their desktop?
Or is it just an animated representation that isn't really necessary?

Inappropriate?I think i can say how i use it, which is to organize my efforts for this one class i have. So for that class i'd have to prepare about 5 or so files that are various unrelated .C files and various .BMP's in various folders... so i like have a shelf/group with all previous labs which i dig into for some things... and i just use the 3dish-nes to stack stuff and pin stuff to walls and i really love the sticky notes thing we got so i can stop writing such things on my labmanual all over the place.
So for me, bumptop is less a desktop solution and more a way to organize my thoughts for one class.
[it should be noted that i also like bumptop because it easily handles my desktop that has literally 5000 items on it (i just checked, it's a even 5000)... so normally when i'm not doing homework, i exit bumptop and i always have "Show Desktop Icons" disabled cause of the ram penalty of showing so many icons... so ya bumptop is a real workhorse when i want to actually have desktop icons to work with xD]
I also have some 3d cube program for vista so sometimes i'm swiveling this 3d cube with bumptop on all sides with various copies of visual studio open on a couple faces of the cube, and photoshop on another... so it really is signifiicantly useful :P -
Inappropriate?Its not very useful (yet)
BUT IT IS DEFINITELY FUN!!!
...thats enough reason for me
I’m excited

Inappropriate? It ends up being personal preference and whether or not they actually get into using it...
I have friends on both sides for whether or not is actually useful to them.
All I can do is ask that people give it a chance before judging if they'll use it or not.
I’m mad at my laptop

Inappropriate?Maybe not as practical as a normal desktop, but it will liven it up and make it not as boring, which must be good!
I’m a nice person

Yeah. In my opinion stacks are the new folders for me. Kinda like an Insta-folder... -
Inappropriate? As soon the desktop becomes full and clutered it's real useful i piled most of my icons in different category and have created more space on my desktop i'm using more my desktop since i lay hands on bumptop, i'm using it more on documents and pdf files etc...
I’m excited

Inappropriate? Then there's another small limitation- it only applies to the desktop so far.
If it were something more universal and used throughout the whole documents structure, then it would be a little more functional.
I’m disappointed at its shortcomings

It is not limited to the desktop, but also not the default for every folder as that would take up a lot of memory for each simultaneous instance of BumpTop. Nonetheless, it is possible to have the BumpTop interface within any folder of choice (except probably the root of the drive, but I haven't tested it...).
Yeah, the original video that the main site links to should be updated so people know of the current possibilities with BumpTop.
So, it defaults to automatically apply to desktop. After that, just add what folders you want to use that interface with a click of a button. Revert through the same button.
To make it truly universal would be an amazing feat. By then it would have to it's own OS to manage all these instances of the interface... Maybe in the future: BumpTop OS. :P -
Inappropriate? For me it adds a level of familiarity to using the computer. We use words like "desktop" - I would love to have rich, detailed 3D desktops with "books" of files to flip-through, windows with either "real" (online) weather or simulated/selectable. Add atmoshperic sounds. For me this just makes the computer more physical - so I feel like I am touching/doing things and not doing it from "behind" a glass screen with a mouse and keyboard. "Immersive" is a good word, I think. And no, not "useful" as far as an direct function, but comfort/enjoyment does have some value.

Inappropriate? At the moment, I feel Bumptop is somewhat a novelty (albeit an awesome one. And one that any gaming PC should have for that extra "pimpness" lol). But once touch becomes the defacto input method (See Microsoft Surface, iPhone etc.. It's all moving that way), Bumptop will really come into it's own.
It brings us one step closer to visualizing our digital data as something real that we can physically manipulate and interact/work with. If that makes sense.
It kind of reminds me of Minority Report ;)
